Letter to a Relative
Vanity ^ | 6-26-09 | Dick Bachert

Posted on 06/26/2009 10:42:27 AM PDT by Dick Bachert

A close relative – with whom I have an otherwise loving and satisfactory relationship – recently replied to one of my emails on the subject of Obama and his breath-taking push to socialize America. I inferred from the tone of her reply that she might be growing a bit weary of my strident beating of the drum for our freedoms, the Constitution and the return to the best values of the America in which she and I grew up in the 40s, 50s and 60s.

I wrote her THIS in reply:

Dear XXXX,

I have posted this multiple times to several freedom related forums so it was not for my personal amusement. I have heard from any number of retired and active military (mainly navy) who are very concerned about what these guys will do to the our defense capability.

Have you not heard that humor, satire and ridicule can be very effective ways of awakening slumbering members of a community (aka PISSING PEOPLE OFF to the point where they also become involved in solving the problems)?

Do names like Mark Twain, H. L. Mencken, P. G. Wodhouse, George Carlin, etc. not ring any bells?

Each day brings new concerns that once we get past this early stage and still hold out some hope that sufficient numbers of those around us WILL engage in what is NOW clearly a battle for the soul of America, we will have serious violence. I find it incomprehensible that so many of these people actually supported this guy! I knew he was a Marxist and what he was up to BECAUSE HE TOLD US DURING THE CAMPAIGN! White liberal guilt can make people do really stupid things.

Those folks who scoffed and laughed over drinks at the country club at activities of "fools" like me who have been TRYING for decades to tell them what was headed this way awoke one day in November with bulls-eyes on their chests. For those same decades, because they were well off and isolated from the ideological struggle going on below them, they remained blissfully aloof from the ideological fray and furor.

Representative Larry McDonald – a physician who had access to the professional social set here in Atlanta -- often despaired of the apathy, indolence and unconcern among them. He often remarked how sad it was that those with the most to lose if the free enterprise, free market system under which they have grown comfortable and lived the “good life” went away DO SO LITTLE TO TRY TO SAVE IT. He sometimes went on to say that if our system IS saved, it will probably be saved by waitresses, truck drivers and plumbers. (How fascinating that “Joe The Plumber” made headlines during the campaign!)

The battle is now at their very tastefully designed front doors and they ignore it at their peril.

Lines are being drawn as we speak and at some point, everyone WHO CARES will have to choose a side.

The phrase "Why THAT could never happen here!" rings a bit hollow -- NOW THAT IT HAS!

I shall send you several examples of the kinds of things many of us down here in the trenches have been doing for a long, long time. We like to think we may have bought some time to "solve the problem." But few reinforcements came.

Having said all of that, some of us will continue to try to "solve the problem" as long as God gives us breath.

We all have loved ones who STILL don't "get it."

Keep working on them. We MUST have DEDICATED NUMBERS to turn this around and can't afford to write off anyone.

There are ways ... but it isn’t easy. Beating someone over the head just makes them more stuck defending their position.

Baby steps, subtle ones.

I’ve been “baby-stepping” this lady for 30 — count ‘en — 30 years.

Now that it’s very late in the game, she’s finally starting to “get it.”

Relatives are the hardest people to convince of anything — that’s because they know you too well and they know that they can ignore you, too... LOL...

So..., don’t expect a whole lot, really.

Recently I had dinner out with 3 acquaintances. One was a former teacher. She informed me that the majority of those under 50 agree with the current state of affairs... She travels a good bit, and noticed other countries are happy America is going to be like them now.

We have slept too long. Our younger generations are prejudice to the liberal side now. Due to many factors. Largely education, medias, political correctness, civil rights, affirmative action, loss of Christian faith, etc.

They agree.

We have been too complacent for too long.

Can we effect it? time will tell quickly.

"Why THAT could never happen here!"

If you had gone around in 1910 telling people that in 20 or 30 years Germany would be rounding people up and incinerating them by the trainload the response would have been "Why THAT could never happen!"

“You can bring a liberal to knowledge but you can not make them think.” I can’t remember who said that but it is so true. Keep up the good work.

Indeed!!!

Until we “solve” the problem of government schools, anything else we do is simply arranging deck chairs on a sinking ship.

“The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.” Abraham Lincoln

The philosophy in American “schools” (more appropriately, INDOCTRINATION CENTERS) since Horace Mann and John Dewey has been SOCIALISM.
The increasing systemic philosophical and political corruption since has culminated with Obama and what may go down in the books as the MOST corrupt administration in our history. And it didn’t just happen: It was ENGINEERED.

But it’s likely that the new kids will be taught to believe that it was always thus.

“When an opponent declares, ‘I will not come over to your side’, I calmly say, ‘Your child belongs to us already... What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community’.”

to realize that for liberals ... it is their religion. The are completely dedicated to the beliefs.

A few years ago I realized that conservatives play by the rules, most of whom have Christian belief, ethics, honesty, and good will. It is not that way with liberals. anything goes ... lying, cheating, stealing, .... the only thing they care about is winning and anything goes. It is almost impossible to overstate their willingness and zeal to do what it takes. Which is reason to fear for our conservative candidates ... if we have any ... that are not moderate.

This moderate idea of ‘it is the only way to win’ for a conservative is lethal to the party; and it is not true. However, many have drank the kool-aid.

Alas!
