Waxman-Markey Global Warming Bill: How bad will it be for where you live?(Incl. Table to look it up)
Heritage Foundation ^ | 6/26/09 | Karen Campbell, Ph.D. and David Kreutzer, Ph.D.

Posted on 06/26/2009 5:11:56 AM PDT by bestintxas

It has become quite clear over the past several months that placing a cap on carbon emission--via rationing, taxing, and eliminating consumer choice--will have major implications for American families and the economy.

An analysis of the Waxman-Markey bill (as reported out of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce) by The Heritage Foundation found that unemployment will increase by nearly 2 million in 2012, the first year of the program, and reach nearly 2.5 million in 2035, the last year of the analysis. Total GDP loss by 2035 would be $9.4 trillion. The national debt would balloon as the economy slowed, saddling a family of four with $114,915 of additional national debt. Families would also suffer, as the bill would slap the equivalent of a $4,609 tax on a family of four by 2035.[1]

Heritage is not alone in its assessment. The National Black Chamber of Commerce[2] and the Brookings Institution[3] also project huge job losses. Proponents of a national energy tax will quickly point to a recent Congressional Budget Office memo[4] and Environmental Protection Agency[5] analysis suggesting low per family costs. Those estimates are grossly inaccurate, as both the CBO memo and the EPA's analysis contain flaws too serious for use as measures of the economic impact of the Waxman-Markey bill.

I do not see any positives at all in any of this.

We need to kill it off today, cremate the body and disperse it to the winds.

When the Democrats can’t get the Brookings Institution to go along with them you have to know it is a really really bad bill.

Republicans have got to stand up and tell America how Washington is going to be rolling in dough when these new bills are passed. Just imagine the huge new agencies that will have to be created to administer the programs and to police the “offenders”! Obama and his cronies are drooling at the thought of all those new federal employees.

We all know what happens to a dollar when it is funneled through Washington on its way to the “deserving constituency” (wealth redistribution!)! A large portion of it never leaves Washington! Think Social Security.

All I ask is for some upstanding Congressperson to show us a simple pie chart breaking down what will happen to a “tax” dollar as it makes its way through Washington - one chart for National Health Care and another for Cap and Trade. I want to see the WEDGE that represents the new bureaucracies and all of those new “employees”!

I would be willing to bet that over 40 to 45 cents out of every dollar would stay right there in DC! Now, multiply that times a trillion! Of course Obama is licking his chops - all the while looking so “compassionate”!

There is an upside to this bill. If it passes, the democrat party will die of self inflicted wounds.

The fact of the matter is that by and large people don't care about "global" warming. They care about being able to afford to run their air conditioners and their big screen TV's.

I would anticipate it will be repealed in 2013 by a majority republican congress and signed into law by a Republican president.

Americans vote their pocket books. They will remember this one.

On one hand they want us to drive more cars by providing a purchase incentive and by saving a car company and on the other they want to make it impossible to drive cars.

I learned in psychology 101 that this is a form of schizophrenia.

“Americans vote their pocket books. They will remember this one.”

Only if they realize it as actually being there as a tax.

The beuaty of this for the libs is it is a “hidden” tax, i.e. - no IRS demanding forms be filled out and a check sent to them, or withheld from your paycheck.

The effects of this tax will permeate into everything you purchase - and will never be isolated as being so much a part of you bill.

Think gasoline - the gasoline tax which is quite steep, is not collected by the government. It is collected by oil companies. It helps villify the oil companies as “ those mean and evil companies who make excessive profits” and are blamed for all increases in the cost of gasoline. And it is never known how much tax you are paying of the total unless you really dig deep.

And the carbon tax will be a lot more difficult to identify - once in the system, it will be virtually impossible to know how much of the bill it represents.

I heard the “postal stamp” talking point this morning on Fox and I gave the idiot a one fingered salute while I listened to his BS. My blood pressure went through the roof and I felt blood shooting from my eyes. I checked out the table with the Heritage article and my district just happens to be hit the worst in NC. Wonder if that’s because my Rep happens to be a conservative? I fear this will be the final blow to our economy. This is just what my county needs with an unemployment rate of over 15%. This is total insanity.
I woke up in November to a Bizzaro world!

This monster (1092 pages), HR 2454, is more than just getting a higher Elec or Gas Bill.

This *thing* mandates new nationwide Building Codes (Commercial and residential) and 'retrofitting' of existing buildings to comply with the codes.

New standards for every piece of equipment that goes in a new building from, HVAC equipment to the lights used. And even new standards for water consuming plumbing fixtures (hello Al Gore). It also has new standards for your HOME FURNACE and AC Unit!

And beside mandating new *Efficient* light bulbs in OUR houses. It also mandates that NEW light fixtures be installed (by 2011 iirc). This includes every Lamp with a cord and plug (they are specifically singled out).

And that all Home Appliances comply with these new 'efficiency standards'. That's everything from your Dishwasher, Garbage Disposal, Refrigerator to your Vacuum Cleaner.

Then it goes into the Cars we drive, or don't can't. As this 'thing' promotes WALKING to walk. And building more Bike Paths, annnnnnnnd building little hives Communes where people live around a central business district so 'we' can walk, Bike, or take one of those High Speed Rail thingys to work. (Cars are verboten, they want everyone OFF the highways.)

Naturally there's much, much, MUCH more. This *thing* will CONTROL everything we will be allowed to do.

The reality is this *thing* is Communist Central Planning, 1010. All under the guise of 'Saving Energy'.

Somewhere Lenin and Stalin are smiling.
