I want to especially commend John McCain, who's with me today, because along with folks like Lindsey Graham, he has already paid a significant political cost for doing the right thing. I stand with him, I stand with Nydia Velázquez and others who have taken leadership on this issue.

Here’s hoping Lindsey Graham admits to an affair.

OK guys, this is our fault. The Bush plan wasn’t great, but it was a lot better than anything that would come after it, and I knew that when I saw it. We could have tweaked it and made changes but people here shot down Bush instead. Hope everybody here is loving what they get.

Nydia Velázquez is the dumbest woman in government this side of Sotomajor. I would bet that she doesn’t know that Puerto Ricans are Americans by birth.

Scathing is how I can describe my brief notes to each one this morning and again this afternoon. I hope others do likewise.

You are wrong, compromise never works out well. We beat it two years ago, and we can beat it again.

Numbers USA is a super organization for helping the fight against amnesty. Our country, as we know it, will not exist once the door is opened. We will have a flood of more illegals (somewhere I read by as many as 70 million by 2050)....it already is fast loosing its cultural heritage in place of diversity. Great PhotoShop work.

I’m not sure exactly what the extreme positions were (because presumably, to compromise, you have to have two extremes).
I would assume that the left wanted wholesale welfare benefits for the many Chinese, Arab, Irish, Polish, English and Latin American illegal immigrants.
But what did the right want? Conservatives did nothing to even state their positions. The only thing that came across on FR was hatred of Latin Americans, which is hardly a position, particularly since in many areas the largest numbers of illegals were either Poles or Chinese.
We needed an entire remaking of our immigration policy. But the remaking we’re getting now is going to be ten times worse than the thing you think you “beat.”

I have freely stated my position on illegals for years, if they are in the country illegally they need to be sent back where they came from, wherever that is, anything else is a compromise. It can be done, it has been done successfully in the past, it can be done again.
I've watched the free for all at the border since the 86 amnesty, which produced the mess we have today. Any forgiveness, of being in the country illegally, congress passes will cause more of the same. Existing immigration law is sufficient, if the bureaucracy that processes visas were fixed.
