For weeks, Michelle Obama had been telling her staff and closest confidantes that she wasn't having the impact she wanted. She is a woman of substance, with a background in law, public policy and management, who found herself relegated to role model in chief. The West Wing of the White House -- the fulcrum of power and policy -- had not fully integrated her into its agenda. She wanted more.
So, earlier this month, she changed her chief of staff, and now she's changing her role.

Evidently being a mom is not considered worthy work.
This crew in the White House is going to make Jimma Carter look good.
Substance..she wants a whole pie...not a itty bitty slice...
“who found herself relegated to role model in chief.”
More like she has found herself relegated to the role of model in chief.
Although Obama's job-approval ratings have soared, the first lady -- a Harvard-educated lawyer -- wasn't satisfied with coasting. She is hiring a full-time speechwriter and has instructed her staff to think "strategically" so that every event has a purpose and a message. She doesn't want to simply go to events and hug struggling military families, she said; she wants to show progress. "Her desire is to step out more and have deliverables," said communications chief Camille Johnston. "It's about things that are coming up that we want to be a part of: child nutrition reauthorization act, prevention and wellness for health-care reform."
A Freeper came up with the best description of MO that I’ve seen: “LeBron without the tats.”
First, put duct tape over her nasty mouth.
Second, get rid of the ugly scowl.
Third, lose the cute little ammo belt.
Fourth, remind her she is not the President.
Fifth, two for the price of one is not going to work for her.
She just wants to “look” impressive, just like her faked vegtable garden.
Americans usually want their first ladies to be, first of all, ladies and then wives and mothers. We are a conservative nation for the most part. It’s not that we don’t value education and experience, but we elect the husband of our first ladies to do the work of being President that demands that. I’m educated and experienced too, but I value being a wife and mother and ultimately, child of the King, first. The “substance” spoken of here will pass away. My child will carry on a legacy into the future which will last forever.
Her husband is an admitted substance abuser (both legal and illegal).

Hubris, thy name is Michelle!
i’ve gotten the same impression as you say since she moved into the WH. What beats me is- Is it not enough to be FLOTUS but you have to be more than FLOTUS? This is what Machete Machelle seems to want if I’m reading correctly. Why re-invent the wheel? I guess being FLOTUS and all that comes with it obviously there’s something missing here that she feels there’s a need to fill , with what I don’t know. Every FL has their special projects , other than her garden , she would be better off doing some FREAKIN’PUBLIC SERVICE to OUR NATION rather than looking for some political angle to cover her FLOTUS butt
That isn't a speechwriter, it's a publicist. State propagandist to spin every facet of life as "improving". Anyone believe that is EVER the case, regardless of who's in charge?

Here is a clue Michelle.
No one elected you to any office.
Why are you and I paying for a huge staff for the President’s wife so that she can make appearances all over the country and work as a lobbyist for her husband’s agenda? We elected a President, not a President’s Wife. I can see that she needs a social secretary and a domestic staff to handle the White House, but I don’t see why we are having to pay for the kind of staff that a Cabinet official needs.
I'm sure Axelrod took due note, and then went about his usual business.
BTW, the last time I checked Michelle hasn't been elected to anything.
