Statement from First Lady Jenny Sanford I would like to start by saying I love my husband and I believe I have put forth every effort possible to be the best wife I can be during our almost twenty years of marriage.
As well, for the last fifteen years my husband has been fully engaged in public service to the citizens and taxpayers of this state and I have faithfully supported him in those efforts to the best of my ability. I have been and remain proud of his accomplishments and his service to this state. It is for that reason that I deeply regret the recent actions of my husband Mark, and their potential damage to our children. I believe wholeheartedly in the sanctity, dignity and importance of the institution of marriage. I believe that has been consistently reflected in my actions. When I found out about my husband's infidelity I worked immediately to first seek reconciliation through forgiveness, and then to work diligently to repair our marriage. We reached a point where I felt it was important to look my sons in the eyes and maintain my dignity, self-respect, and my basic sense of right and wrong. I therefore asked my husband to leave two weeks ago. This trial separation was agreed to with the goal of ultimately strengthening our marriage. During this short separation it was agreed that Mark would not contact us. I I believe enduring love is primarily a commitment and an act of will, and for a marriage to be successful, that commitment must be reciprocal. I believe Mark has earned a chance to resurrect our marriage.

One very classy lady;if Gov. Sanford has any sense he will now make his mariage his number one priority.
ooops, mariage =marriage
“I felt it was important to look my sons in the eyes and maintain my dignity, self-respect, and my basic sense of right and wrong.”
Well, I could support this lady for President. Good grief, what a nightmare.
Her husband, I maintain, will not receive any political support from me. What a twit.
and so his response was to go down to Argentina and spend time with his floozy?
This had to be a hit job. That reporter wasn’t just in the airport by chance.
“public service”.
OK, where are the emails?
My thoughts exactly!
If you have a family then your spouse and family should all be able to put their faith and trust in you. Sanford's wife and family have not been able to trust him for a very long time.
If the most important people in your life, your spouse and children, if you have children, can't trust you, then why should I? That applies to everyone in my world: friends, family, people I do business with, work for or work for me, strangers and especially politicians.
Sanford may or may not be politically redeemable, but for now he's not electable.
By my count he's already on his third chance. The wife has lost count.
damn, he musta known someone had the goods....he has enemies even in the GOP there I hear
anyhow that just makes my little gal from Alaska look that much sweeter and boy howdy she’s the cat’s pajamas already
btw, I’ll see yall later, I’m going to Santo Domingo to relax and get my head straight...someone here let my wife and kids know will ya?
How in the world he thought he could take a week off in Argentina and no one finding out blows my mind. He must have wigged out.
His chances at a presidential run are now zero, for good reason.
Another piece in the puzzle. Sanford was dead wrong to have an affair. But now we can see why his wife and kids didn’t know where he was — because his wife asked him not to contact them.
So those who attacked Sanford for “leaving the kids on Father’s day” were attacking him for the wrong reason.
And it also explains why he went down to Argentina, if the trial separation made him finally realise that he had to confront the other woman and tell her face-to-face that it was over.
So those who claim he went down their to sleep with her again may also have been very wrong, and have done Sanford a disservice.
Sanford must answer to God and his family for his actions. And his leaving without ensuring that whatever happened in his state was covered was a mistake, although we can now see why he felt it was important not to let people know what he was doing.
But even though it turned out some of the speculators here got lucky and guessed right in this case, in my opinion it was a very poor showing here on FR, but illustrating what has become all too often the norm here, people shooting off half-cocked without really taking the time to understand the situation.
He should resign, now.
In my opinion, based on this story and what he said at the conference, he went down there to break up in person, because this separation made him realize he had to shape up.
The concept of a married sitting governor with presidential aspirations ‘having’ to go to South America in secret to break it off with a paramour is bizarre, to say the least.
Good looking boys....BTW when you have all boys it means your wife is stronger than you
