Live thread for commentary on the ABC News Primetime ObamaCare Infomercial tonight at 9:00 PM CT/10:00 PM ET.
John Boehner recommends this handy guide to the healthcare informercial from The Freedom Project.
A Guide to the President's Health Care Infomercial
Acknowledging that his thinking on the issue has "evolved," President Barack Obama says he could support a law mandating that individuals purchase health care coverage, with fines for those who do not, but he stressed that there must be some kind of waiver for those who are simply unable to afford it. (snip)
During the election campaign, Obama said he was opposed to a federal law mandating the purchase of health care coverage.

i actually think the status quo is good....
Yes. It is. It was even better before HMO’s.
President says often the Mayo Clinic often provides care that is 1/3rd less expensive than other systems who offer same care. Using Mayo Clinic system as example of coordinating care.
Diane Sawyer says emails point out the Mayo Clinic is doing ‘it’ as a private sector provider so why get the gov’t involved?
Obama is spinning every question into a story with multiple examples
He acknowledges “many people are happy with their healthcare right now.”
Unfortunately “whether we like it or not, government is already involved in healthcare and is going to be involved in healthcare”
Doing absolutely nothing would certainly be better than more Gov’t involvement.
I was but couldn’t get past the first minute. We usually have fun during Live threads but this is beyond torment.
You can still catch it! It just started!
(Do I really need a sarc tag? ;^) )
Q. Can you convince the American people that there are limits to what we can pay for and who is going to enforce the rules for those limits?
A. We should design a system with choices for doctors/plans, with adequate treatment but not huge waste, adequate coverage for all people, and driving down costs over the long-term. Doctors will make the right decisions for their patients if they have good information and their payment incentives don’t actually cost them to provide the right care.
we watch to jeer, to arm ourselves, to be able to counter him.
Know your enemy.
Healthcare stocks have been on fire lately, actually. Perhaps the market thinks ObamaCare will go down the tubes.
There is no way my TV is on any channel other than FOX. F-ABC
Thus spoke Obama:
“...adequate treatment but not huge waste...”
Translation: “If grandma is older than 65, she’s not going to get a hip replacement if she falls.”
Does he think doctors don’t make good decisions now? With Obamacare doctors suddenly start making better decisions? Gawd, it’s amazing this country accomplished anything before bambi came into our lives.
I think the system 0 is describing is called the Free Market.
Going to commercial break with question on the table about what can be done to reduce the incidents of people using ERs as their primary care,,,question posed by a nsg student/er tech from Johns Hopkins

Sorry, ABC - I’ve found that the UFC fighting on Spike is more interesting, and more realistic.
The reason to watch it is this: When you talk to your liberal friends (assuming you have any), you are able to say “I watched and heard what Obama said and when he said x and y and z, he was plainly wrong because of the following facts...”
You have less credibility with those you would try to turn if you haven’t watched it yourself.
That is why I am watching it. My elderly parents are watching and by watching it myself, I will be better able to destroy Obama’s arguments when I speak with them next.
When obama said we need to figure out what works vis a vis effective treatment which by the way hasn’t been fleshed out.
Charles asked “shouldn’t we figure out that before we change the system?”
Good question,,Obama hedges.
Question about centering care via Primary Care Doctors and Obama is talking about lack of PCPs and docs going into specialities because it is more lucrative.
Provide additional incentives for people going into primary care medicine.
Look at Medicare reimbursements
I think that there needs to be a cap on malpractice. That would help decrease costs and is the main reason for the ‘quantity’.
You are a much better person than I....I had to walk away during the commercial break. Thanks for this list of sponsors...
