I have twins that are at high risk for complications from any flu.

One of them has epilepsy, and the death rate for epileptics for H1N1 is twice that of normal flu.

I know they have an outbreak at my daughters school, and I’m trying to figure out if I need to homeschool them or what.

I appreciate the time dvdmom is taking to post the articles about H1N1.

Hi luckystarmom,

I’m a homeschool mom so hopefully I can answer your question. First, I think pulling your kids out right now is a wise idea, but to do so (at this point) would mean homeschooling. If it’s already in the school, and your kids are at risk, I’d be doing this ASAP. Each state has their own laws about this - here is a website that lists the laws by state: http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp

Just to give you an idea - in Georgia, (unless it’s changed recently) you can pull your child out at any point, and then file the paperwork within 30 days. Each state requires different stuff in terms of paperwork. Some states will require you to be under an “umbrella” school.

I hope that helps... feel free to send me mail if you have any questions

On a personal note - I’ve been homeschooling for years, but it is a particular blessing to be doing it now. My youngest has asthma and my oldest had brain surgery this year - flu would be very risky for them.
