Brian on Fox and Friends now says the Governor took a Cruise...
This is getting weirder!!
(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
“Im thinking you grabbed that from the link I posted from my tinfoil hatted friend.”
I did! I found it humorous... ;-)
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has just returned from a week-long trip to Argentina, The State newspaper reports, even though his staff claimed the disappearing governor was hiking on the Appalachian Trail a few hours away from the state capital.
Sanfords unknown whereabouts had fueled speculation in South Carolina since he left town Thursday. Even his lieutenant governor was unable to figure out where Sanford had wandered off to.
An explanation came Monday from the governors staff he was hiking the Appalachian Trail to clear his head, a spokesman said. Spokesman Joel Sawyer released a second statement Tuesday saying Sanford called his chief of staff to check in and would be returning home early due to the hubbub surrounding his absence.
Like it or not,any Republican with presidential hopes needs a full understanding and awareness of how the media will portray every act,and be sure not to give them any free shots.
“Sanford’s chief of staff knew where he was and they were in contact”
Could you please point me to a reporting of that fact? All I’ve read is that he finally “called in” to the COS and was then told that he needed to “get back”. I wouldn’t call that staying in contact. At all. Perhaps there is something I’ve missed??
The comments in this thread make me wonder if FReepers haven’t been replaced with DU’ers this morning, how gleefully they aid and abet the smearing of a decent man based on biased reporting and half-truths. This is precisely why so many Conservatives don’t bother to run for office. If we don’t even circle the wagons with our best leaders to give them the benefit of the doubt until all the facts are in when so-called “stories” like this come out, it doesn’t speak well to us. I’m truly ashamed at what I’ve seen in this thread. I wonder how many will personally apologize to Gov. Sanford if this turns out to be exactly what I’ve said... a non-story ?
Stick a fork in this flake, he’s done.
I agree with you. It seems the typical “rush to judge” without facts.
>Far as I can tell, Sanford was in contact with his chief of staff during the entire trip. I would guess he was also in contact with other government officials as well as his wife. My wife would gladly lie to scumbags (media, lawyers, etc) if I asked her to.<
I’m sure his wife knew exactly where he was.
Unfortunately, there are some really wild rumors flying about this.
Now agree with you, his political career is gone. You cannot spin this now with the cruise not hiking — it has been spun enough. It is a shame but Sanford did this to himself. This is really strange.
Some were blaming the news media and other elected officials yesterday and going after Freepers who didn’t support Sanford. From Day One when his wife did not know where he was and he was gone on Father’s Day with having four boys, it made no sense. First his office said they didn’t know where he had gone and then said he was hiking.
It is a shame this had to happen, and it still makes no sense.
Excuse me but he is the Governor of a State who did not officially leave the Lt Governor in charge. He has a duty to the state of South Carolina and makes him different then the vast majority of adults. He swore an oath to his State.
Yeah but his office didn't have a com path to him. They didn't hear from him from Thursday to Monday
Most charitable explantion on his How I met Your Mother "I'm going to Argentina" impulse is he decided to do a John Stonehouse and thought better/didn't have the 'nads to compete it.
REAL easy.
Yes it is!
Amen. I too am tired having to make excuses for our candidates. He sounds like his political philosophy would serve the party and country well, but he opened the door to the media and they jumped on it. HE needs to explain himself.
No issue at all for me if he had issued a simple press release, and followed the protocol for transfer of power. He may have and someone in his office dropped the ball. Still, he needs to explain this now - for his political aspirations.
Until he clears this up, I am not confident that I can trust him - no vote from me. A real shame.
We have a TOTUS who has disappeared for Conservative Americans. “The chips will fall where they may on Governor Sanford.”
Actually, he’s a Republican, Andre Bauer. But he and Sanford apparently don’t get along, and Bauer’s office has been one of the biggest pushers of this story all along.

You keep reprimanding people to “wait for the facts”. Yet as those facts come out, you continue to say that they are all lies and distortions. When does the reporting become facts for you? Maybe when they come out and say that he’s just the greatest guy in the world and what he did was just fine? Facts are facts whether you approve of them or not.
Other people? His wife was speculating, his office, Lt Governor and State Police were all looking for him and you blame the media? Give me a break. He is the Governor and Governors don’t just disappear without notification when it is for days not hours.
