There was a joke going around the ‘net for a while about this. I guess someone took it seriously.

The only problem is, about 3/4 of the year the river is dry or barely a trickle.

Years ago on a fishing trip out of Acapulco, I asked the skipper (retired Mexican army officer, educated in Los Angeles) how to say “see you later, alligator” in Spanish. He didn’t like my question much, and just said “There are no alligators in Mexico!”.

Alligators are no big deal along the coastal counties of Texas, and even in the Rio Grande.
If I had to guess, there are probably 40 or 50 of them living within a mile of where I live.
Hudspeth County is half way to Los Angeles.

IIRC, the area just across the River from Fort Hancock and up to the outskirts of Juarez/El Paso, is a big center of the drug gangs. Sort of a "No Go Zone" for the Federalies and even Mexican Army.
The 'gators are welcome to 'em.

The Border Patrol needs to get pictures and run ads in the Mexican newspapers, to scare off the “wet backs”. Too bad they are not in the Tijuana river, the flowing sewer of Southwestern California.
