McCain's Right: Board The Kang Nam

Defense: The former presidential candidate argues the U.S. should stop and board the North Korean ship if we know it carries banned cargo. Some say it would be an act of war. So is firing missiles at Hawaii. Some say it would be an act of war. So was the naval blockade of Cuba in October 1962 in a confrontation with an infinitely more dangerous foe. Sometimes it's just necessary to exert military pressure to call someone's bluff and nip a growing threat in the bud. The U.S. Navy is tracking a North Korean ship under new U.N. resolution 1874 that bars Pyongyang from trading in weapons, including missile parts and nuclear material. It's similar to an early resolution barring Pyongyang from testing nuclear weapons and the missiles to carry them. That went really well.

The only problem is that you have to decide to win. Probably ought to move more troops to Korea.

Well, if "some say", then it's settled.

We should attack by bombarding them with UN Resolutions!

McCain is beginning to drive O’s foreign policy. Even O acknowledged he was out talking about Iran today due to McCain’s “Neda” speech yesterday. Keep pushing, McCain!

Time to hire Somali pirates! That would be a good use of them.

Before doing so we had better be aware of the consequences. Are we ready for the possibility that one of the largest standing armies in the world could attack one of the most important economies in the world (South Korea) or even attack the second largest (Japan)?

Probably ought to move more troops to Korea.

Given the size of NK's army and the "stressed" status of ours it might be more effective for the Navy and AF to do most of the heavy lifting.

NK isn’t going to give permission for us to board. i think we’re tailing the ship to intimidate. i don’t think O has
the guts to push it any further.

Well, if "some say", then it's settled.

I once said that the Somali pirate wannabe's who launched that vicious small craft attack against that merchant ship should have been declared an act of war but nobody listened to me........Somalia could have been a mere footnote in history by now if folks would have listened.

My concern is that I've heard (can't remember the source) that the troops we have there are expected to last about 40 minutes. By all means, Navy and AF, but you can't win without taking the ground.

.
What good would it be to send more Americans if there is a nuke attack on S.Korea? They would just get incinerated with the rest of Korea.

I don’t know if we’re ready for them to attack Japan or South Korea, but putting off dealing with them is like not treating gangrene. Either the ship is a threat, in which case I think it ought to be sunk, or it is not a threat, and someone is trying to blow smoke up our butt. We are still at war with North Korea, and it looks like they have chosen to escalate it.

While it is true that you cannot win and hold ground without boots there, you CAN interdict and cripple enemy troop movements. We’re not talking an invasion of the Norks, we’re talking blowing their military and government to H###. The AF and Navy are more than capable of doing that!

...a Chinese submarine has been tailing the destroyer McCain, close enough to hit its towed underwater sonar array on Friday near our naval base at Subic Bay in the Philippines.

This is the crux of the issue. Tell China "thanks for all the tainted goods. Good luck collecting on those T-bills" Maybe that will get their attention. We won't get any future "loans" but that's just an added benefit.

Yeah, Obambi is going to grow a pair.

Nevermind

Well since the NK’s have already said the Armistice agreement is null and void aren’t we clear to resume hostilities?
It appears the ship is hugging coastal waters the whole way to Burma so we can’t board and seize it on the high seas.
I say we just assume it has contraband on board and torpedo it.

Won't happen. The nukes aren't very strong, and I doubt they have many that function properly in light of their tests. May need to be concerned about dirty bombs, but even if you aren't going to war, better have enough troops to make threats credible.
