Bert Bank was a World War II veteran who survived the Bataan Death March, became a state legislator and founded two Tuscaloosa radio stations. Perhaps his biggest claim to fame, though, was as founder of the Alabama Football Network.
Bank died Monday night at age 94.

My uncle was on that death march too. He never returned.
God Bless him.
My condolences to the family, friends and fans. Mr. Bank will be missed greatly throughout the state.
Thank you. He was there with his brother, one got taken on the march, the other one lived.
The one who lived had six sons and built a big spread in MT.
One of his Montana POW license plates hangs on the wall in my garage.

None of us last forever, but valor and heroism do last.
Coming off my first Fathers Day without him, another WW2 Vet who sacrificed for you, for me, and for all of us. There is a God. There is a greater place. And there is a greater country right here where I'm typing. Never forget!
Now to football.
As a native non-college grad Detroiter from many years ago I developed my group of favorites in the college ranks; Michigan State, Notre Dame, & Michigan and Alabama. Why those, is hard to describe. Michigan State is because of the underdog status. Notre Dame was all tradition, being Catholic, and that tradition meaning excellence seems to have paled recently - we'll see. Michigan is also a tradition I love it as much as anyone when they do good, but I always question who they play. Huge point margins against inferior opponents doesn't empress me.
Alabama became my odd interest school many years ago. I remember Kenny Stabler back in '66 and Bear Bryant. A coach as great as any I've heard of and that includes the likes of Scotty Bowman and Toe Blake.
He was a champion on many more fronts than just football, I imagine Bert Bank was as well. Quality beats quantity every time. When referring to a man, a person, it's inspiring.
Be good at what you do, and never be satisfied that being good is enough. Be great!
Thank God for those who prove that is true.
Thank you for the update. I am very happy that you are keeping his memory alive.
Take Care.
