Duncan Hunter, a retired Republican who once chaired the Armed Services Committee, has decided that Iraq War veterans are the perfect candidates to revive the Republican Party in 2010.
Hunter -- a Vietnam War vet who briefly sought the 2008 Republican presidential nomination -- is already backing two such candidates as they launch challenges to two of the more junior members of the House Democratic majority: Jesse Kelly, who wants to take on two-term incumbent Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona's 8th District, and Vaughn Ward, whose target in Idaho's 1st District is freshman Democrat Walt Minnick.
Hunter will be attending a series of brunches, receptions and a golf outing in Tucson this weekend with Kelly, who said Hunter is a big attraction in conservative circles in his district in Arizona's southeastern corner. "He did very well in early presidential polls down here," Kelly noted, referring to Hunter's 2008 bid.

We need him here in Pa. to speak at an event for Bill Russell, who is challenging John “porky” Murtha!
BUMP.
Duncan Hunter : Your Country needs you !
great idea
America needs to be lead by warriors , not by lawyers
oops ! Mr. Hunter is a lawyer too!
maybe a few exceptions ....
Lawyers that at least used to be warriors
are exempt ;^)
That’s exactly what I told him. We need more lawyers in office like a hole in the head.
Funny thing. The moderates always scream that the GOP needs to be more moderate to attract latino voters yet Hunter has been a steadfast conservative who got reelected again and again in a heavily latino district.
I’m still mad about it all and I still have the bumper sticker on my car!
Veteran or not, first and foremost they must be strong conservatives.
Dems ran some Iraq Vets too, if you recall.
I like the idea of more Vets running, but we also need to be sure they are qualified and conservative.
Jesse Kelly is quite an impressive figure... Hunter will be here (in Tucson) to fund raise for Jesse.
There are actually FOUR veterans running in our primary.
Well, we certainly don’t have a say in who runs. Only in who we support. Have to judge them on an individual basis. But I’m all for warriors over lawyers, all thing being equal.
All four vets running in AZ Eighth are conservative.
Absolutely.
Hunter himself was supported by none other than Chuck Yeager and that’s a resounding endorsement in my book.
Yup. And he’s been working on that border fence for 15 years.
Still have my sticker on as well.
still have my cap !
The Republican Party rejected and censored the only real man who ran for the presidency in 2008. Political campaigns have become the bandwagons of shrieking, insulting shrews of the elite, thriving on government paychecks or bailouts and falsely accusing all dissenters. From now on, I will only vote for a candidate—a man—who has a solid voting record in favor of
* Producing American goods and preventing traitorous deals with foreign communists and other enemies.
* Supporting fatherhood in families by repealing feminist laws and closing anti-family offices.
* Supporting market-based education. Teachers and administrators should receive what they earn in competition.
* Supporting sincere allies without betraying them for pecuniary and pagan interests—pecuniary meaning allowing Iran to build nuclear weapons out of fear of higher freight fuel prices and foreign product prices, lying about moving the Israel Embassy to Jerusalem,...
* Putting organized crime down—drug family members manipulating local governments, regulations abused to stop some families from legitimately competing,...
Until we see enough support for such a man, the consequences of hormonally conceived and perpetrated policies will continue to weaken and destroy America. I can do nothing more than watch the demise of so many Americans to lives of peasantry under compulsive, libertine, globalist plutocrats.
You have some pretty tough standards. LOL.
Mine should be relatively easy for a man of conservative, pro-America princliples to follow.
Support US sovereignty and reject any international agreements that encroach on it.
Support the Constitution, as it was written and amended. Devolve the Federal leviathan back to its constitutional limits
Support American business and capitalism
Maintain a military capable of defeating all enemies
Dismiss Political Correctness for the marxist construct that it is.
Give thanks to the Almighty for granting us his favor and act in a manner to deserve that favor
“Hunter/Demint 2012 “
We’re dreaming pissant. The media is never going to allow such sanity. They don’t want statesmen/patriots, they want OBAMA celebrities with no honor.
I’m not worried about what the marxists want, that’s a given. It’s what the republicans want that concerns me. The morons at Weekly Standard, Nat. Review, Fox, etc will be undoubtedly dusting off their RINO kneepads again for 2012.
