Russian TV - 'Poland planned to invade USSR'
22.06.2009 15:59
Russian state television has broadcast a report in which it accuses Poland of collaboration with Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union.
The report says that the government in Warsaw was in a secret alliance with Nazi Germany and japan to invade the Soviet Union.
Today Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians celebrate National Remembrance and Mourning Day to commemorate victims of WW II, popularly known as the Great Patriotic War. To mark the occasion, as well as the 70th anniversary of the signing of Ribbentrop Molotow pact, Russian television has broadcast a reportage which claims to reveal a great mystery.
The journalists claim that it was not Molotows intention to sign the pact with the Third Reich - an agreement which effectively sealed Poland fate - but he was forced to do so because the USSR was in danger from an invasion by Poland.
They cite documents, yet to be made public, which prove that Poles conspired with the Nazis and planned to attack the Soviet Union. Japan was also involved in the plot and its role was to invade the eastern borders of the USRR.
The report clearly shows that the Ribbentrop Molotow pact was a necessity, saving the USRR from Polands aggression and helped regain indigenous Russian lands, which had been seized by Poland.
Polands embassy in Moscow has said it will take necessary steps in response to the allegations.

This would be like France blaming their collapse in 1940 on Holland.

The US would have helped except we were up to our necks with Canadian invaders.
They brought us hockey and war, and the hockey was more violent.

It was from an 8th grade world history book, and it showed Poland’s horse-mounted cavalry with WW I weapons practicing for defense of their country in the late 30s. I don’t have pictures, unfortunately....

I didn’t find the exact picture I was thinking of, but Wikipedia has a picture of Polish cavalry in action at the Battle of Bzura. It’s under the entry for the order of battle outlining both sides military plans....

I thought, I'll have to read about Poles charging tanks with cavalry again...
1.They did not... it's Nazi propaganda.
2.Polish cavalry attacked German infantry indeed - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bzura, but not the tanks.
3.During whole WWII horses were used extensively for troop and supplies transporting.
4.Poles have constructed a decent tank, however there were not enough of them to fight on two fronts - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7TP

The Poles actually defeated the Soviets in 1920 and forced them to sue for peace. The Soviets, at one time had a great fear of Poland invading its western provinces and grabbing huge chunks of the Ukraine and White Russia.

Not to mention they were the only nation to succeed in subjugating pre-soviet Russia. For awhile, anyhow. Something Napoleon couldn’t duplicate.

Here you have some info regarding Polish cavalry right before WW2 (and during the German invasion):
In contrast with its traditional role in armed conflicts of the past, the cavalry was no longer seen as a unit capable of breaking through enemy lines. Instead, it was used as a mobile reserve of the Polish armies and was using mostly infantry tactics: the soldiers dismounted before the battle and fought as a standard infantry.
Technically speaking, in 1939 Poland had 11 brigades of mounted infantry and no units of cavalry as such. Although the cavalrymen retained their sabres, after 1937 the lance was dropped and it was issued to cavalrymen as a weapon of choice only. Instead, the cavalry units were equipped with modern armament, including 75 mm guns, tankettes, 37mm AT guns, 40mm AA guns, anti-tank rifles and other pieces of modern weaponry.
During the campaign, the brigades were distributed among the Polish armies and served as mobile reserves. In this role, the Polish cavalry proved itself a successful measure in filling the gaps in the front and covering the withdrawal of friendly units. Polish cavalry units took part in most of the battles of 1939 and on several occasions proved to be the elite of the Polish Army.
