UPDATE: The governor’s office issued a statement Monday afternoon: "Gov. Sanford is taking some time away from the office this week to recharge after the stimulus battle and the legislative session, and to work on a couple of projects that have fallen by the wayside. We are not going to discuss the specifics of his travel arrangements or his security arrangements."

The whereabouts of Gov. Mark Sanford have been unknown to state officials since Thursday, and some state leaders are questioning who is in charge of the executive office.

Neither the governor’s office nor the State Law Enforcement Division has been able to reach Sanford, who left the mansion in a black SLED Suburban SUV, said Sen. Jake Knotts and three others familiar with the situation who declined to be identified.

Sanford’s last known whereabouts were near Atlanta, where a mobile telephone tower picked up a signal from his phone, authorities said.

One official familiar with the situation said there is no indication that foul play is involved.

. . . . .

First lady Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press her husband has been gone for several days and she doesn't know where. She said she was not concerned. Jenny Sanford said the governor said he needed time away from their children to write something.

That sounds a lot more like "we know exactly where he is, and it's none of your damn business."

Sarah Palin is "damaged goods?"

I'm sure you realize the common implication of that term when applied to women.

Enough is enough. This is just getting bizarre.

so you don’t take any vacation days from work?

try being under the microscope 24/7 and wanting 3 days away!

That’s not what I mean - I meant politically, and you know that.

She was brought into the spotlight too early. Palin is an amazing governor and a great person overall. However, perhaps because of the very reason that we like her, too many voters just dislike her, and for better or for worse, I don’t think she’s electable.

Many children make and color their own cards for Father’s and Mother’s Day...those young enough to not be able to drive or safely ride their bike to a mall. The homemade cards are MUCH better.

If you don't know what I mean I don't think I can explain it so that you get my point.

No, you probably can't.

Agreed. Much of the concept is hard to put into words.

Indeed, but completely misses my point. I have gotten many of them, and some still exist. But, I got hugs and kisses any time I wanted them. I still do, and with my own children, and lots of grands, I still get plenty.

EVERY day is Father's day, and every day is Mom's. I am old fashioned in my beliefs and standards. As a Christian, I celebrate His day every day, as well. Christ's resurrection makes it possible to live each day. Cards are nice, but are just pieces of paper and glitter.

Days to honor someone are just artificial contrivances. If you don't "Honor thy father and mother" every day, you need not do it on a designated date and buy or make cards. It's the hugs that count.

Do you know what a "man cave" is? Do you understand that men would rather be left alone, except on their terms? But, women want a "civilized" man, and men want...!!! That means the guy leaves his balls on deposit! He can't chew and spit any more.

Why do so many girls like "bad boys", but want to make him into a pussycat?

There is plenty to agree on...

In the days of Shamgar, son of Anath, in the days of Jael. The highways were deserted, and the travelers walked along the byways. Village life ceased, it ceased in Israel, until I, Deborah, arose, arose a mother in Israel. They chose new gods; then there was war in the gates; not a shield or spear was seen among forty thousand in Israel. My heart is with the rulers of Israel who offered themselves willingly with the people. Bless the Lord! . . . The Lord came down for me against the mighty. . . . Thus let all Your enemies perish, O Lord! But let those who love Him be like the sun when it comes out in full strength. - The Story of Deborah in the Bible - excerpts from Judges 5

If this sounds familiar... then know that God can raise anyone to bring things back to the right way! Leaders aren't always men, and men aren't always leaders! Pray for our Country. Nothing is more powerful than God

Hello snippy...if you coming to IOP Freep mail me and we just might do a bit of catsailin’/brewdrinkin. I appreciate your responding to all the meshuggener on FR who seem to be infected with the nanny state of mind and feel like they have been left unprotected by their state governor taking a few days away from the media...jeez!
I think all state legislations should only meet for 100 days a year maximum except in case of major issues. We don’t need NO MORE STINKIN’ LAWS!

Ridiculous story. Does the man not deserve a few days of privacy to get his head together ? Do we have to know where he is every waking moment ?

If only there had been this much scrutiny when Bruce Lindsey was sneaking Clinton out of the White House at night under a blanket in the back seat of his car.

I think that MSM is trying out this story out as a kind of a trial ballon so that they can use it on Sarah Palin eventually down the road. Of course it will be a lie, but what’s new? Everything that the MSM says about Sarah Palin is a lie.

Maybe he is on a Vision Quest for Barack Hussein’s brain and backbone, as well as a disguise that will keep Michelle Baby from scaring little children and breaking mirrors. If so, he’s not coming back unless he gives up.

Obviouly you don’t live here and don’t get the point. After the long legislative session he often takes off for a little R&R. We don’t mind and no one has ever been concerned before. They knew he was hiking and where but he was sometimes out of reach by cell phone in the mountains. In fact if you watch the raw video of the Lt. Governor you can hear the newsman say, but the governor has done this before after a session and no one minded, why now. The lame excuse given by the Lt. Governor (a political enemy) was that in these days since 9/11 blah, blah, blah. He’s been governor for 7 years and he is just now complaining.

I live here, it’s a political attack and believe me, they love the fact that it got so much coverage and angst from the likes of you.

I don’t think Miss Behave was saying men should never go off on their own. Of course, men need their alone time and they don’t need to be second-guessed about it. Since I trust my husband to be faithful to me, I don’t need him to tell me every little place he goes. That would be really neurotic.

Still, I do find it a little strange that he would choose to do this on Father’s Day of all days, leaving his boys with their mother on a day that they’re supposed to be male-bonding with their dad. Sure, every day should be Father’s Day in a way, but every day is Christ’s day too and it would still be weird if somebody skipped out on his family on Christmas, don’t you think?

Oh well, maybe he just isn’t a holiday kind of guy. But I’m hoping that it turns out he is doing something important that requires secrecy like visiting Iraq. And I’m REALLY hoping he isn’t just having an affair because we sure don’t need any more of that.
