The whereabouts of Gov. Mark Sanford have been unknown to state officials since Thursday, and some state leaders are questioning who is in charge of the executive office.
Neither the governors office nor the State Law Enforcement Division has been able to reach Sanford, who left the mansion in a black SLED Suburban SUV, said Sen. Jake Knotts and three others familiar with the situation who declined to be identified.
Sanfords last known whereabouts were near Atlanta, where a mobile telephone tower picked up a signal from his phone, authorities said.
One official familiar with the situation said there is no indication that foul play is involved.
. . . . .
First lady Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press her husband has been gone for several days and she doesn't know where. She said she was not concerned. Jenny Sanford said the governor said he needed time away from their children to write something.
read the article.
Now if the Messiah did the same thing, the media will praise him for communing with nature. The electoral playing level is stacked against us. We need to find some way to overcome media bias or else, we won’t win another election again.
The Governor went on a hike on the Apalachain Trail it seems. Meaning his wife would not know where he was even though she knew what he was doing. Even a governor deserves to take some time away alone yes even to hike the A.T.
Of course ABC ran a hit piece. As they have done with Palin, etc. But most people aren’t on FR or Drudge or keeping up with what’s really going on. They barely have time (or the interest) and just tune in to 15 minutes of the TV news. And when they hear, “the Governor just ‘vanished’ last Thursday and won’t return calls” in the incredulous-sounding voice of Gibson, Couric, Williams, they think the Gov’s a nutcase, untrustworthy, strange, has issues, and on and on.
That’s exactly what I’m saying. The average person just hears a soundbyte of “the Governor just went off on his own without a care in the world” and they think he’s a loon or into something unsavory. They pretty much immediately have a negative view and discount him. The news spoke of him as if he was certifiably nuts.
You’re being fooled by one of Sanford’s GOP rivals—who is very jealous of the guv’s popularity among SC voters.
Don’t worry, he’s with us. Just had dinner.
Lucky bastard.
Sanford isn’t an idiot. But I question his judgment because his enemies(on a nationwide scale) will use this as an opportunity to call his sanity into question. The whole bit about his wife and kids not knowing where he was will make a great 30 TV commercial.
If the wife said anything close to what she was quoted as saying, this was handled badly. Handling things poorly isn't a crime, but it does tend to make one look like a doofus.
Any Governor's office that runs 24/7 would be scary indeed.
Can we get Rick perry on this program? if it works on a State level, I’d support trying it on a National level.
Was he hiking?
And why was he not with his kids on Father’s Day?
Ridiculous story. Does the man not deserve a few days of privacy to get his head together ? Do we have to know where he is every waking moment ?
......and that’s exactly whom the nightly news is designed to influence - the voter who forms opinions from sound bytes and snippets heard or headlines read in passing.
I haven’t seen who asked for the information about his cell phone but I’m betting it was one of the politicians out to make Sanford look bad. In that case I’m sure they were able to get the information with less than a little arm twisting. Now, if it were you or me, it wouldn’t happen.
In this video you can see that the Lt. Governor is stirring things up. Listen to the reporter say that the governor generally takes off for a few days after a long session and no one has complained before. This is a hit from his enemies. The people of SC are were not concerned. The politicians are out for him. The Lt. governor is full of it and perpetuating this to his own advantage.

You recall wrong. Union battle deaths were about 110,000 while confederate battle deaths were about 94,000. Nowhere near 2:1, but accuracy has never been the Southron hallmark.
Of course, SC still has one of the highest miliary participation rates in the country. How does your beloved North compare again?
I'd say very well.
Me, for one. At least two of my neighbors, as well. Your wishes are not commands.
I did have a Skype video call to MY Dad.
Every day is Father's Day, to many of us! I get emails from my 86 yo Dad every morning and evening, in spite of his progressive Alsheimers.
I spent "Father's Day" watching TV and walking the dog... 200 miles from my nearest child or grand (4c and 9g)!
Your mileage may vary, but your car can still travel the same roads!!!
