The whereabouts of Gov. Mark Sanford have been unknown to state officials since Thursday, and some state leaders are questioning who is in charge of the executive office.
Neither the governor’s office nor the State Law Enforcement Division has been able to reach Sanford, who left the mansion in a black SLED Suburban SUV, said Sen. Jake Knotts and three others familiar with the situation who declined to be identified.
Sanford’s last known whereabouts were near Atlanta, where a mobile telephone tower picked up a signal from his phone, authorities said.
One official familiar with the situation said there is no indication that foul play is involved.

First lady Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press her husband has been gone for several days and she doesn't know where. She said she was not concerned. Jenny Sanford said the governor said he needed time away from their children to write something.

raven: If he wasn’t one of the “good guys”, he would have lied and lied and lied and hedged all his words, and drawn it all out. (Think Kennedy/Clinton/Franks, etc) He is a good guy... with a conscience.... doesn’t make him perfect or “right”, but does make him uniquely human..:)

Yeah, I hope he has an explanation that will have us cheering him on. But as it is, I can see this as fodder for some ugly campaign commercials.

I'd say foul play, carjacking, heart attack on a side road, husband/wife serious falling out.....my pick is some kind of foul play or an accident in some remote spot.

I had no idea he was “missing”. Oddly, I had just sent him an email thanking him for his help on a personal matter and then came to FR and saw this thread. I checked our local news and they say he’s away catching up on some business.

He’s a good man and I hope he is resting up or at least getting some peace and quiet where ever he is. He’s been quite busy what with all the crap Obama has been up to and he’s also working to get conservative governors elected elsewhere.

I agree with you, the paper misquoted her. Her and their sons are on vacation at the beach and he took off for some time to catch up on work. The people who need to know where he is do, including his wife.
