Except we have guns. I was pointing out that fact to my kids today. If police fired randomly into a crowd in the US, there would be return fire.
We retain guns not to defend against invaders, but to protect us from a tyrannical government.

We must never forget, and we must teach everyone, this truism:
The only reason that anyone would seek to disarm the citizenry is if they intend to do something to them that they wouldn’t allow if they had the means to resist.

And that's why I'm hoping there are CIA and Mossad agents happily handing out AKs to those who want to defend themselves... Maybe I'm delusional to believe that could happen.

“If police fired randomly into a crowd in the US, there would be return fire”. Depends on where it happens. If it is in a lib run “gun free zone”, like most coastal cities, it would be ugly.

Taking on a nation of +200 million snipers, hit and run “Red Dawn” tactics, not smart to try.

I think that that is especially true with regards to the police. I don't think you'd see that against soldiers as much, but there are so many hard feelings because of all the corruption and thug tactics that the police have been using lately, that there'd be a lot less hesitation to fire on them than the military.

I don’t think the average officer would fire on his own fellow citizens. Just no way.
