Obviously, you are mistaken. He has the right AND the authority to evaluate the burka. What is to prevent it being used by bank robbers? By suicide bombers? It is dangerous wherever it is used, not just degrading to women (which it also is).

It is an encroachment on women's rights and the ultimate symbol of suppression. It has no place in the western world. IMO there is a major difference between a simple head scarf and a full burka.
If there's an encroachment there must be one who makes women wear that. Are you sure that that's the case not the internal motivation of such women?

The women are forced to wear those sacks with eyeholes by the Islamic cockerels,(I refuse to defame real men by using that word in describing these scum) not Sarkozi. No right minded person wants to wear such an item except if they are threatened with punishment and death.

The women deserve to be freed from the bondage of being made to wear those garments, that is the encroachment on human rights.

Does the French constitution allow Sarkozi to legislate?

What is to prevent it being used by bank robbers? By suicide bombers? It is dangerous wherever it is used, not just degrading to women (which it also is).
Such argument is applicable to many things (sun-glasses, masks, containers with liquids, kitchen knives) it's a question of one's fantasy. If there's a REAL problem with the banks, burkas can be banned in banks, not in the street.

So making someone wear something must be banned, not wearing.

Schools, public and private, in the US have dress codes. US businesses have dress codes.
Sarkozi hasn't spoken a word about this - so he meant wearing in the street.

I agree with others who believe it should be outlawed by all civilized countries. It's a human rights issue, in my mind. This clothing item is used by some to subjugate women.

The burqua is, in fact, used to subjugate ~ that is ENSLAVE ~ women.

The government of France has an obligation to protect women in France from being enslaved.

Personally I favor the death penalty for those who enslave others.

When the burqua-wearing woman is separated from the man who brought her to the store it’s time to leave. He may well not care to be blown up.

Is it a matter of faith or a point which one can prove with logic and arguments?

It's not like folks haven't figured out a long time ago what enslavement is all about.

Not worth discussing with you.

Ah, yes, the bruises, black eyes, broken noses, they don’t show when a woman wears a burka.

As far as the banks go, you are then in favor of a woman removing her burka before she goes into a bank, and putting it back on before she goes on the street? Is that your solution? Or do you want to prevent women from conducting business in banks that prohibit burkas? So only MEN can control the money, whether or not it belongs to the woman?

The burka is a symbol of slavery.

From your posts, we can only guess that you still keep your wife in her burka?

Not at all. You want to start splitting hairs regarding what is or isn't oppression and slavery when the fact is the Burqua satisfies any definition for either concept.

End of story.

telling these incessantly-whining crybaby Muslims to either assimilate or leave.

France may have a conservative (by their standards) President, but they are a long, long way from kicking out the millions of immigrants that support their economy. The French aren't ready to go back to working full time and doing manual labor.
