um, who cares?

Mousavi is a would be tyrant and if he is successful in scrapping the elections and seizing power very few on this board will be able to say they saw it coming when his policies are everybit as brutal. I know criminals when I see them; I picked up on Obama very early in his primary campaign and I’ve already picked up on Mousavi

That is not the point.

A lesson from the Mid-East:

The ENEMY of MY ENEMY is MY FRIEND!

Those who brought down the Soviet Empire were not all civil libertarians, were they? Of course not!

This election WAS bogus, and the people of Iran have had enough.

The Mullahs decide who can actually be on the ballot, but that wasn't even good enough, they have to stuff the ballot box like some Communist country!

This is bigger than just one election, this is a movement that even Mousavi can not control.

Yes, in the short run, it might well be crushed, but this is important, and Obama is on the wrong side of history.

Mousavi is probably not a great guy - he was one of the founders of Hezbollah, the one who recruited Khan to work on the nukes, etc. However, the Iranians apparently thought he represented a different approach, and we should certainly support their freedom to choose an alternative to Ahmadinejad (who is a known fruitloop and probably more personally nutty than Mousavi).

The reason Obama is not supporting this particular change is that he secretly supports Ahmadinejad, who refers to Hugo Chavez as his “brother” and has spent lots of Iranian money helping Venezuela in its oil and military technology. Bambi has already expressed his admiration for Hugo, so you can connect the dots. And I suspect that Mousavi has connected them, and knows perfectly well that Obama really supports Ahmadinejad.

Mousavi, like all the other politicians in modern Iran, is a crook ~ no doubt about it.

On the other hand, the issue is over the way elections are handled. Apparently Mousavi fell off the Ayatollah wagon and he shares the public's concern in the matter.

Makes him preferable to the Nutjob ~ not that he's good, but don't let a demand for perfection drive away improvement.

Knowing that Obama is not one of Mousavi's sockpockets in the byzantine world of Shia politics is also a benefit to having Mousavi.
