the other side of the coin is that the iranian govt may be given hope that the US won’t intervene and are emboldened to get even tougher on the protesters.

If the Iranian government seeks the respect of the international community, it must respect the dignity of its own people and govern through consent, not coercion.

Is Barry saying the I.U. does not respect the Iranian government?

Which reminds me...didn't Barry just go on an extensive tour of international communities to apologize for the arrogance of his predecessors?
