Iran Riot Police Clash With Thousands of Protesters in Bloody Tehran Crackdown

TEHRAN — Witnesses said police beat protesters and fired tear gas and water cannons at thousands who rallied in Tehran Saturday in open defiance of Iran's clerical government, sharply escalating the most serious internal conflict since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The eyewitnesses described fierce clashes near Revolution Square in central Tehran after some 3,000 protesters chanted "Death to the dictator!" and "Death to dictatorship!" Police responded with tear gas and water cannons.

The witnesses told The Associated Press that between 50 and 60 protesters were seriously beaten by police and pro-government militia and taken to Imam Khomeini hospital in central Tehran. People could be seen dragging away comrades bloodied by baton strikes.

Helicopters hovered over central Tehran. Ambulance sirens echoed through the streets and black smoke rose over the city.

Tehran University was cordoned off by police and militia while students inside the university chanted "death to the dictator," witnesses said.

Obama's silence might as well be complicity to the brutalization and slaughter of the Iranian people. He prefers to embrace tyrants and dictators. Sickening. He's no leader of the free world.

A sad and tragic day.

Obama is an enemy of freedom. At home and abroad.

But he’s such a talented speaker, and wowed them at his event last night.

Wait a minute that doesn’t do a thing for freedom seeking people like the brave Iranians.....

“But he’s such a talented speaker...”

‘talented speaker’ = good bs’er, which is what the majority of politicians are. The role of the MSM is supposed to be to cut through the bs and present the facts. That obviously doesn't happen anymore.

This action by the Iranian people seems more as though the defeat by deceit of Mousavi is as the trigger for the movement against the Islamic authority in control. A movement waiting for an excuse to topple the regime so-to-speak, as Mousavi isn’t any better than Ahmedinutjob.

May GOD be with the Iranian people this historic day.

Indeed a sad and tragic day, but expected given 0zer0’s refusal to “meddle” in Iran. This will just prove to all pro-democracy groups around the world that the US under 0zer0 will throw anyone under the bus for political expediency.

Hey 0zer0, just wait until Kim Jong Il lights off his little firecracker on the 4th of July, then you will understand what “meddling” is.

“A people unwilling to use extreme violent force to preserve their liberty deserves the tyrants that rule them.”

In the case of the Iranians they need to already have stockpiled weapons, formed up into cells and be escalating to the next phase. Why is this so hard to understand. Totalitarians are typically unconcerned with the pronouncements of CNN news anchors or large numbers of people marching.

The time for civil war in Iran is now! Sadly, they appear completely unarmed and unorganized.

This deserves a second look. Great point.

Let us reach out to despots. Of course, if they wish to reach our outstretched hand, they must step forward over the bodies of the dead freedom fighters.

Please tell me the CIA is feeding arms, explosives, and “experts” to the revolutionaries.

It’s either this way of eventually the full military option.

This window of opportunity is so narrow for such an incredibly high probability of success for regime change.

We’ve done this for decades elseware as have the Communists for their causes.

“A people unwilling to use extreme violent force to preserve their liberty deserves the tyrants that rule them.”

The subject, and action at hand is not “preservation of Liberty” as that was taken from them in 1979. It is for the renewal of Liberty, in which the Iranian people are up against an entrenched and heavily armed aggressive ruling regime.

The sympathy of the World is with the peaceful protestations of the people of Iran, not the regime, not the thugocracy.

Real people....telling the world that their leadeer is a dictator...and the world does nothing.

And in this world where we are the ONLY super power....We have closed our eyes and ears because we have a President...who just doesn't give a damn....

Leaving it to the mullahs....goes hand in hand with his Muslim heritage.

Isriel and the US need to run full blown surgical strikes starting yesterday.

Keep the hard liners occupied while the revolutionaries are air dropped arms and given air cover support.

This could be over in a week or less.

Our troops of high honor to Wash DC.

"Mr. President, you are relieved of command for gross incompetancy and disobediance to the oath of office to uphold the Constitution."

Iran shows the way to liberty and freedom.

I have, yet, to get excited about this. To put it into context, this is like Pelosi and Waters duking it out, with the Ayatollah ZerO waiting for the fur to settle. If anything good comes of it, DumbO will take credit and no one will benefit.

Would someone within the Republican Party step up to the podium please. John McCain has spoken....but I don’t understand why there is no line leading to the podium.
