Oh, that's why he got the transplant; no doubt about it. This is not a typical treatment offered to just anyone; so go ahead and go off the deep end...I'll meet you there.

I am very familiar with liver complications post the type of surgery that Jobs had a few years ago (Whipple)...I'm sure the cancer showed up in the liver...although no one will confirm that apparently (probably to avoid this type of reaction). A quick google search found that most physicians would not do this, as it results in a poor outcome and takes an organ from someone who would probably experience a much better long term result.

However, I already knew that, having sat in a surgical consult room with my Father and asking the question: "How about a transplant?" Mayo said that they had tried such an approach, but it was abandoned for the reasons that I stated. My Father had very, very good insurance; but not the resources to build a new wing onto the hospital.

I used to work for MCI ...

Our CEO Bill McGowen was diagnosed as needing a heart transplant ...

He got one at Pitt University Hospital like 2 weeks later - then hospital got like a $10M donation from Bill ...

Gawd, I loved the guy - he was a legend in the industry, but I never agreed with this - he shoulda had to wait like everyone else ...

BTW, almost 5 years to the day, he collapsed and died at Georgetown University Hospital Physical Therapy (he went daily after heart transplant) ...

His new heart “exploded” ...

I should have also told you that I know a woman who was in your wife’s position (also hepatitis)...she DID get a transplant last Fall, after several years of waiting to get to the top of the list. So, don’t give up on that!

A partial transplant (that is, part of the liver from a healthy donor) is a viable alternative, because the part of the liver will grow in the recipient, and the donor’s liver will regenerate.

However, there are several things to consider such as age, health and the underlying Hep C.

Getting a “slice” of someone’s liver could do wonders, however, if the Hep C is not cured, then the end result could be the same.

By the way, the transplanted patient will feel great after the operation. The donor...not so much.

I hope your wife’s health improves....I’m wondering if you’ve tried Chinese medicine? I know it probably sounds weird....but, my friend (76 yrs old) contracted Hep C through surgery....and it manifested about 5 years ago....because she has a weak heart (the surgery)....she couldn’t do anything but look for other alternatives...her husband found what I think is Chinese medicine, and she went into “remission.” (The docs were amazed, of course.) I hope you are able to find other help for your wife.

Nothing to see here, just your usual liver transplant for a hormone imbalance.

The ping was sent using my iphone’s new cut and paste. First time. Worked pretty good. I emailed the list to my iPhone, copied all 375 names and then switched to Safari and pasted into the reply screen.

Fantastic! BTW, does anyone know who the oldest unassisted living person is? You, someone in their 90’s or older that lives independently in their own home or apartment?

From WJS
I figured hepC but I guess not>>>>>

>>>>William Hawkins, a doctor specializing in pancreatic and gastrointestinal surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., said that the type of slow-growing pancreatic tumor Mr. Jobs had will commonly metastasize in another organ during a patient’s lifetime, and that the organ is usually the liver. “All total, 75% of patients are going to have the disease spread over the course of their life,” said Dr. Hawkins, who has not treated Mr. Jobs.<<<<<

The Wall Street Journal and you still don’t believe it?

Nope. All of the articles appear to have the same anonymous source stating the same unsubstantiated reports of a secret liver transplant in a hospital in Tennessee. All three of the hospitals in Tennessee that are qualified to do liver transplants have been contacted by the San Jose Mercury News that is also reporting the rumor, and one does not do adult transplants and the other two have denied that Jobs was ever a patient in their hospitals. Note they did not just say "We are not at liberty to make any comments due to HIIPA rules." They denied his presence.

I also believe the claim that somehow Tennessee has an only 48 day liver transplant waiting period compared to 306 days in the rest of the US is bogus. Transplants are sought everywhere in the country and the waiting lists are national... not state wide. The waiting lists are not because of lack of facilities, they exist because of the lack of viable liver donors. Are Tennesseans somehow dropping like flies or more likely to donate? I doubt it, strongly. Tennessee should have the same waiting period as any other state... otherwise everyone seeking a liver transplant would be waiting in Tennessee.

I may be wrong, but if Steve Jobs AGAIN has secret major surgery without telling the stockholders, he and Apple will be probably pilloried by the same people who wanted to file stockholder suits the previous time. Even though he was on medical leave, his stated reason for taking the leave would be a lie to the stockholders. I don't think the Board of Directors would have allowed it.

Basically, this rumor just doesn't pass the smell test. Too many things are wrong.
