Democratic legislative leaders said Thursday they intend to use the over $400 million in unexpected tax amnesty revenue the Corzine administration has received to restore tax rebates for for New Jerseyans earning as much as $200,000 annually.
The leaders spoke after Gov. Jon Corzine announced the amnesty program, which his administration hoped would net $200 million, could bring in over $700 million.
"With nearly 17,500 envelopes still to be opened and processed, we have collected more than $600 million," Corzine said just hours the Assembly and Senate were prepared to vote to approve his $28.6 billion 2009-10 budget. The votes were postponed until Thursday, June 25.

According to the news people at Jersey 101.5 this morning, the legislators at the press conference yesterday had smiles bigger than a Cheshire Cat! Oh so happy they can bribe their constituents with a one off gimmick.
What happened to the half penny sales tax increase dedicated to property tax relief? Of course, they should be paying down the debt but that would be sensible.

Steve Gearhardt rules...I still listen to him when I am back in NJ for work. One of the few that tells it like it is in Trenton.
That’s “Jim” Gearhardt, and oh yeah he was in good form this morning on the drive into work about this “Gimmick”. And I can just see all the democRAT sheeple falling for it and re-voting these idiots into office. G.R.I.P. everyone G.R.I.P.!
LOL - talk about a brain cramp..!! And what happened to Judy from Dennis and Judy? Michelle was on with him the last I heard.
I remember a while ago passing through NJ and they were talking about the hearse they had set up on the parkway where people could toss their empty wallets.
Very true...I’m not sure what happened to Judy, just that Michelle, who used to have the “After-Hours” program took the earler timeslot, I believe, so that she can be with her new baby. The new Michelle that took over the “After Hours” show is a little bit younger and gets alot more intimate than old Michelle.
The “Empty Wallet” drive netted I believe they said over 10K wallets, with more being sent directly to the Governors Office still. They had two caskets full that Casey & Rossi, “The Jersey Guys”, took to the Statehouse portico and it was a really big rally. They have pictures of it on their website.
Today at five pm is the “hour of Corzine” with the Guys and Bob Engle, the co-author of “The Soprano State”. And you can get a weekly wrapup of the shenanagens from Trenton. If you haven’t read the book, do so, it’s a terrific eye opener to those who are not from “Joisey”.....
