The U.S. Senate, by unanimous consent, passed a resolution apologizing for slavery and racial segregation, according to reports.

Republican Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, one of the sponsors, said the measure was no “panacea,” but could help trigger “reconciliation.”

Our country is ruined by apologists and lazy greedy people who want something for nothing.

My family never owned any slaves. All of the slaves are gone.

Money never fixes a damn thing. You in Congress, you will incite more and lasting hatred with this folly.

Idiots.

There is no one alive who was a slave or owned a slave.

They are apologizing to an empty audience to “feel good”.

Meanwhile, North Korea targets US soil with nuclear weapons.

We have no representation in D.C.

>Sure, I’ll write the check..it just won’t be any good. I spent all my money on guns and ammo.....wanna see?

Would the government actually taking reparation actions justify the use of said guns & ammo? (IE Could it spark a Civil War?)

Let’s face it, we have about as much representation in North Korea as we do in DC... [/cynic]

Well, if people can sue gun makers when people get killed by guns, they should sue Africans for making their ancestors into slaves and selling them into slavery. They should sue Zero, since he’s a post-slavery African, probably descended from slave-makers.

Just how many slaves were there?

Ok, now for the last 40 something years since the GREAT SOCIETY and they learned how to get something for nothing, how many spawns have they created to continue this process from then to eternity?

I think their with pro-creation style over the last 40 years they have more than outnumbered the number of harmed slaves at that time. They still procreated just as the slave owners had them do then, "where's the dad".

We have had over 40 years of reparations with WELFARE, that's enough.

The Democrat Party needs to apologize for being the party of slavery.

The former slaves need to thank the party of Lincoln for freeing
the slaves held by the democrats.

What do you want to bet most people don’t even know who he is or that he murdered innocent men and women. And that this painting is an artist’s interpretation and there was no lady with a baby at his hanging?

Not too many I bet.

And the gutless Republican senators go right along with it. Tell me again why we have two parties.

Reparations is the leftist’s dream. It hits innocent people over the head with higher taxes, and gives people who vote democrat some more money so that they will be sure to vote democrat for the rest of their lives.

I trot these facts out every once and a while. This looks like another opportune moment:

From: "The Historical Atlas of The United States" published by the National Geographic Society in 1988:

Total number of African slaves brought to Colonial America (U.S.) was 399,000. (Page 40 under "African Immigration in Chains")

This total figure of imported slaves grew to a maximum population of 2,000,000 and peaked in 1830

Imported to Spanish America...(Cuba, Mexico, Central and South America)...1,552,100. No estimates as to what this population topped out at.....or when

Imported to British Caribbean...(Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Jamaica and Honduras)...1,665,000. No final estimate of peak population

Imported to Danish Caribbean...(Leeward Islands)...28,000. No estimate.

Imported to French Caribbean...(Suriname and Guyana and Haiti)...1,600,000. No estimate.

Imported to Dutch Caribbean...(Aruba and Leeward Islands)...500,000. No estimate.

And finally...Brazil imported a total 3,646,800 African slaves into their country. There is no final estimate as to what the total population reached or when it occurred.

About 6% of the Africans brought to the New World as slaves ended up in what would be the United States of America. Slavery was also carried on in the Eastern Hemisphere by Africans themselves during this unfortunate period of history but when reminded of this terrible scourge we are, for some reason......only reminded of our own (U.S.) participation..Hopefully, this information will also dispel the notion that the economic success of this country was due to forced human bondage. I haven't seen the stats lately....but I don't recall Brazil ever being an economic dynamo....or Aruba... or....you get my meaning.

I’m part Cherokee Indian, I demand the right to govern myself and to be exempt from Federal income tax.

Hey, you guys stopped at Talequah. You should've headed on over to Pawhuska where the Osages were and gotten in on the Oil Boom (Awl Boom to you Texans).

You should demand the right to own and operate your own casino while you’re at it. Why not?

Ask any of the slaves’ ancestors if they’d prefer to go back to Africa, permanently. Only those who are willing to go back should be granted the reparation they ask for.

My ancestors were held captive in Africa....by Africans, for over 200 years. They finally gained their freedom through the work of Moses.....and a little help from The Lord. This took place about 3800 years ago.

I would like reparations also.....with interest, of course!
