MT: US city demands web log-ins from job seekers [Big Government at work]

If you apply for a job with City of Bozeman - a mid-sized burg halfway across these US - you're forced to surrender usernames and passwords for every account you've set up with websites of the "social networking" variety.

According to the City, that includes everything from Facebook and MySpace to YouTube to, well, Yahoo! and Google.

"Please list any and all, current personal or business websites, web pages or memberships on any Internet-based chat rooms, social clubs or forums, to include, but not limited to: Facebook, Google, Yahoo, YouTube.com, MySpace, etc.," reads a waiver form that allows the City to investigate a job applicant's "background, references, character, past employment, education, credit history, criminal or police records."

Then it asks for usernames and passwords.

When I said, “free” Montana, I was thinking of the in-state firearms manufacturing law - that sort of thing...

OK, so don't apply for a job with the city.

This requirement will dry up and blow away within a few years if people stop asking for city jobs.

Never post are say anything you would not want your/wife/mom/girl friend/ etc to see on the web.

I happen to agree with you...but do you want some drone to have your FReeper PASSWORD, to not only see your posts, but to add a few?

It probably doesn’t matter, ‘cause Bozeman will be destroyed when the Yellowstone Caldera SUPER VOLCANO erupts.

Montana, our neighbor state, is pretty messed up politically. They have a strong union tradition, especially in the Butte area and are very liberal leftist in Missoula and Bozeman where the two schools are. Voters continue to elect leftist idiots like Max Baucus.

The University of Montana in Missoula is a joke...I would Never, Ever hire anyone from that nutjob school.

business websites

So this would include all my banking information as well? Every website I go to the TOS almost always list that I will not share my user name or information with anyone.

To all:
Bozeman is getting a bit toooooo leftist for it's own good.

We have organizations here that want to return the area (and the great plains) back to it's natural state - read no houses, pavement just buffalo and wolves....
I remember having a conversation with an at tourney who moved here (I'm in Bozeman) about 10 years ago. He said: “I'm working with XYZ (I cannot remember it's name) nonprofit and we are going to shut down ALL extractive industries in the state - and that includes farming and ranching - those people just need to understand that they cannot ABUSE our resources like that.”

True story.

The City of Bozeman will be sued for this. They get sued for REALLY stupid stuff on occasion - like Impact Fees...

If I was applying for a job with the COB, I would answer on this question (user names and passwords) “I will supply these to you when it is proved to be constitutional and the COB can guarantee 100% proof that this information will NEVER be abused, leaked or used against me.”

“thats a shame as I have been looking to buy property out that way soon.”

Don't give up - it's GREAT here. BOZEMAN has a ridiculous population and too many trust funders have moved here to live in ‘historic downtown Bozeman’ I live less than five miles from the center of Bozeman and am 100% officially a county resident - not Bozeman. It's better here, the view is beautiful and wildlife is fun to watch.

If you are interested in moving to Bozeman or anywhere in Montana - PM me and I can give you the skinny on the better places to live and SUPERB, hardworking Realtors. (4th generation Montanan)

Oh, of course! Part of the “financial responsibility” check?

Certainly, the City of Bozeman can protect that information, especially from scrupulously unscrupulous IT & politically active (Leftist) employees, much better than the DOD & DOE can protect their super-secret information; and is much more ‘hacker-proof’ than the national power grids.

Wonder what their response would be if someone wrote, “I am unable to share this information with you, as to do so would be a prosecutable criminal violation of federal law, as well as a violation of the TOS of each and all such web sites.”?

“Never post are say anything you would not want your/wife/mom/girl friend/ etc to see on the web.”

Add “employer, neighbors, co-workers, clients” and it makes more sense to me.
