FL 2010: Crist rival maps out strategy for 2010 Senate race [Marco Rubio]
The Washington Times ^ | 2009-06-18 | Donald Lambro

Marco Rubio, who is challenging Florida Gov. Charlie Crist for the Republican Party's nomination for Senate, said Wednesday that if the vote were held today, he would lose because he remains largely unknown to most Republican voters.

But the state's former House speaker, who is the conservative underdog in a contest that will be decided in a party primary next year, has hit the campaign trail early, and he expects to rally voters with his message of smaller government, a flat tax and a stronger defense posture.

"I know that what I stand for is something the majority of Florida Republicans can identify with, and that's why I'm confident that a year from now you will be looking at a very different race," Mr. Rubio said after an appearance on The Washington Times' radio program "America's Morning News."

Charlie Crist: FOR the Stimulus, ON STAGE with Barack Obama, pushing to drive us deeper into debt.

Do we really need another Republican Barack Obama ally like Charlie Crist in Government?

Go, Rubio! Crist was one of those who thought it was A-OK to starve and dehydrate Terri Schiavo to death. I will never forget.

I haven't forgiven Charlie Crist for throwing his support behind John McCain on the eve of the Florida primary. That was the beginning of the end for the Republican nominating process as far as I was concerned. That endorsement set the stage for the others to drop out very quickly.

One thing I really like about Rubio is that as Florida's governor he won't be spending every day, from day one, in office grooming himself for a run a the presidency. He's Cuban born and can't qualify. I know, I know, that little detail has pretty well been scrubbed from our Constitution by fiat, but everyone already knows where Rubio was born so he can't fake it like someone else probably did.

I have never liked or trusted Crist. There is just something about him that turns me off. I wish I could put my finger on it, but whatever it is it really keeps me from being able to support him.

For now my money is on Sarah Palin. I love the fact that the mere mention of her name or an appearance on TV sends the liberals screaming into the night. In fact, that's probably a real good litmus test to determine if someone is a true Republican or just another RINO! I have a sister-in-law whose brother is gay. You wouldn't really know it by just meeting him, but he has a radar-like sense for detecting other gays. I think Palin has this ability when it comes to RINO’s. She can't detect them, but in her presence they are totally unable to resist the liberal’s inability to see her, talk to her or even hear her name!

The deck is definitely stacked against Rubio but even in a loss he will get good name recognition. Could he beat Nelson in 2012?

That's interesting. My understanding was that he was born in Cuba. Thanks, I'll check around. I will still support him, even if he was born in Miami!

From what I've seen of him he is VERY impressive. Very much the kind of man we need helping to run our country.

I really don't think it's the primary goal of Obama, Pelosi, et al to destroy America. Rather, I think the kind of country they want would destroy America. Not that it matters in the end, America is hurt and it will take generations to repair the damage.

I’m back, and I stand corrected. He was born in Miami according to the info on the State of Florida Legislature web site.

Thank you for bringing me up to date! Damn I love FR!

I’ve met Rubio various times and he is as genuine as he is on tv. He’s a great speaker as well.

No, we don’t!!

Please, Freepers, if you can, donate to Rubio’s campaign. He is going to need it to get his name recognized and to fight against the RNSC.

We cannot have Crist!

I second that....we do not want wishy washy Crist!

Who better to help Florida than Rubio? Rubio is actually a conservative Republican. I’m still unsure of what Crist stands for...maybe anything to get him further up the political career ladder?

Donate to Rubio if you can, and follow him on Twitter too.
