Normal small intestinal length is 19-22ft. When I had my bypass my surgeon, who is VERY experienced, actually measures them. When I was in post-op his nurse told me I’d been lugging around nearly 40ft of small intestine.

I was taught in radiology school that the normal alimentary canal of the human has around total 30 feet.....this includes esophagus(1'), stomach/duodedenum (1'), small intestine (23' + or -) and colon (4-5') McGraw/Hill anatomy still taught today

I doubt very seriously if you had 40' of small intestine ....more like I'm positive you didn't...and there is no way he could have measured small intestine w/o opening your abdomen as it loops through out your abdomen and pelvis....just saying. I'm not a doctor but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express....LOL.

Many years ago I spoke with a woman who had almost triple the amount of intestines that she should have had and it was removed and she lost weight. She was heavy since birth like my daughter,

Sheesh.

I had my gastric bypass in 1992. It was done by opening me from the sternum down to my abdomen and the small intestine was physically measured.

With a measuring tape. Very low-tech but effective. And all 40' is there and still accounted-for.
