PBS to Begin Phasing Out Religious Programming From Airwaves

PBS board members have decided to enforce a rule barring religious broadcasts in a move that spells the beginning of the end for most spiritual shows like Catholic Masses and Mormon devotionals on public television.

Former AmeriCorps Official Says Obama Removed Him for 'Doing My Job' PBS board members, who for 25 years have turned a blind eye to religious programming at some of their member stations' religious programing, have decided to enforce a rule banning the broadcasts -- a move that spells the beginning of the end for religious shows on public television.

Six PBS stations currently broadcast "sectarian" programs produced by local religious groups, including the morning "Mass for Shut-Ins," which is popular among elderly and ailing Catholics who cannot attend the daily service.

PBS airs religious broadcasts? Where? Certainly not anywhere around here or in Chicago when I was growing up.

PBS to Begin Phasing Out Religious Programming From Airwaves

PBS to begin phasing out God based religion, religiously.

Let's be honest PBS.

PBS to Begin Phasing Out Religious Programming From Airwaves.

Been doing this for years, with the exception of their many anti-religious programs. ;-)

Mass for Shut Ins is an important broadcast to millions of Catholics. PBS is going to lose alot of their pledge drive cash.

Why would I give money to PBS when they always take off the few Britcoms I watch to ask for money and put on Bee Bop shows?

They don’t do religious programming here anyway.

Some 15 years ago the local station (I'm pretty sure it was PBS) carried an early-morning service from an extremely liberal denomination (known as TEC) that has long since gone over the cliff.

It was slightly amusing because the sanctuary looked like it came from Star Trek -- the original one, from the '60s.

>>>PBS to Begin Phasing Out Religious Programming From Airwaves

No loss. The radio bands are saturated with religious stations.

As for getting the broadcasts off NPR, it seems to me that a govt subsidy for the Christian broadcasts leaves PBS open to pressure for equivalent Muslim, Wiccan, etc subsidized programming. Eliminating the religious programming now heads this off. Leave it to the private stations where it belongs.

I never understood that either. I’m convinced that idiots run PBS. They take off the program that people tuned in to see and then put on some lame-o crappola that nobody wants. To top it off, they interupt the program every 7 minutes for a 5 minute spiel that warns you that unless you donate NOW, such “special” shows will no longer be available in the future. Six months later they drag out the same crappy specials and ask for more money. LOL!

I don’t want PBS airing religious broadcasts.

If priests and mormons and rabbis and mullahs want to air their views, they can buy time on commercial networks.

It’s one thing for us not to donate to them but it is even more important that we let them know that we wont be donating to them or watching their programming. How do we get a message to them?

Any time Barry Lynn chimes in, you know PBS listens. I despise this man.

I think they’ll leave the old shows on, just not put on any new ones.
