The Coming Health Care Debacle
Entitlement Syndrome ^ | 06/16/2009 | Admin

Posted on 06/16/2009 3:13:18 PM PDT by BigKahuna

A new report issued today by the Congressional Budget Office, which analyzed the Kennedy plan coming from the Senate, found that to move just 16 million of the people in this country who are claimed to be without health care coverage into some form of government-provided health insurance will cost the nation 1 trillion dollars over ten years. The CBO also estimates total costs to move all who aren’t currently being covered by some form of insurance into the government’s new plan to be over 3 trillion dollars. We ask the question again: Who out there believes this will be the final and fixed cost? Given the government’s propensity to vastly underestimate actual costs, we can safely say it will be closer to 9 trillion.

This figure is an amount we cannot even begin to afford and which will quickly drive us into national insolvency and a relatively speedy trip into Third World status as each dollar that every single man, woman and child in this country makes is sucked into the great maw of a program that is filled with nothing but downside for any citizen who already has private health insurance, either purchased personally or provided with some form of employer benefit.

It is a shame that populist rhetoric and demagoguery is being substituted for the actual ideas needed to get a handle on spiraling entitlement program expenditures. From our vantage point, we see a lifeboat in the middle of the ocean. It’s already dangerously full and in danger of capsizing, yet the argument on the boat seems to be about paddling to far-off Tahiti, rather than to the shores of San Diego, which lies just a few hundred yards away.

I don’t see how socialized health care really can be stopped from happening here, because conservatives just don’t have enough numbers to stop it in its tracks. Now, if Republican Senators can actually filibuster it, then that’s what really needs to successfully happen. The leftists from both major political parties really don’t care how many people are against this “mess”, because they plan to force it on everybody, no matter what. The left is already spinning this thing as something that seriously needs to be done before Senator Kennedy dies.

This figure is an amount we cannot even begin to afford and which will quickly drive us into national insolvency and

Drive us to insolvency ????
America is already 10 plus TRILLION dollars in debt.
Obamas Bailout Bill and his Budget will ADD another 9 Trillion dollars to that amount.
Meanwhile the Mint is working overtime printing new dollars for Obama to hand out in his bailout/government takeover of private business.
How much more insolvent can we get?

This sort of plan is going to turn us into something akin to Mexico or some Third World banana republic, eventually. Combine a presidential cult of personality with a “cupboard-is-bare” economy that’ll resemble what folks went through in the Depression, and it’ll be all over but the shouting within the next decade.

You know what?

I don't give a crap about this anymore.

If this is what the people want, screw 'em. Hope they're happy.

DO NOT DEBATE this in terms of: How much will this cost?

As soon as you do this, you have lost the argument.

The Republicans will cave and negotiate for a lesser sum, but the camel's nose will already be in the tent. It would grow more & more each fiscal year in scope & cost and they will achieve what they wanted incrementally.

This battle/argument must be fought on the grounds of "Why should I pay for your health costs/insurance?

Do I/Should I pay for your car insurance?

Do I/Should I pay for your rental/home insurance?

Do I/Should I pay for your life insurance?

Do I/Should I pay for ....(fill in the blank here)

I am already paying for the food, housing, education, subsiding of so many things for literally tens of millions of "Not Real Americans"

Enough is enought...no more!

No, I don't and shouldn't as none of these "insurance" costs in enshrined in our Constituition?

Argue on self-responsiblity for their own costs, not the "other" taxpayers.

I could go on for days on this but I hope you get the point.

Lastly, to conclude my rant....F you, Obama!

“Drive us to insolvency ????
America is already 10 plus TRILLION dollars in debt.”

We go insolvent when nobody will any longer buy up our debt in the form of T-Bills and other bonds. That day is coming, and some of those debtholders will do it deliberately, such as China and a few other nations who really don’t like us all that much.

One way to show that people are fed up is to make sure any Tea Party somebody can reasonably get to receives maximum participation and attendance.

I’m a retired military servicemember and though my wife and I live in Michigan, we plan on being in DC on July 4th, for the big one there. Strength in numbers is the only power politicians respect.

The Repubs need to turn this to their advantage with the following proposal.

Because the Dems don’t know how to pay for this, why not repeal the ENTIRE PORKULUS bill, which will free up about $800 Billion. That is at least half of the money that the Dems would spend on the Socialized Health Care Bill.

Then the Repubs could work on getting a real Health Care Bill using the $800 Billion PORKULUS windfall. It’s win-win for Repubs because they kill the Porkulus which is doing nothing for the economy and everyone knows it, while taking the money and spending it on a workable health care plan that might actually do some good.

The Repubs could show they are the party of solutions, fiscal responsibility, and health care. Actually a triple-whammy! Plus put a big dent in the Dems carefully laid PORKULUS funding of their liberal constituency

Don’t forget this doesn’t even take into account all the income tax revenue that will be lost because the government will be making the money instead of individuals and businesses.

And after all of these Tea Parties are officially done, the leftists will still control everything important politically throughout the U.S.! All of the Tea Parties mean well, but they don’t also actually replace leftists with conservatives in control of the government. Wait until leftists allow illegal immigrants and almost all criminals to vote in all future U.S. elections! How can “non-leftist voters” seriously and successfully match the total numbers of new leftist voters? The left is seriously doing everything that they can do to always hold onto their political power, while non-leftists are holding Tea Parties and the like.

I don’t know ... only the Chinese know for sure as it’s their decision to make...

I say let them have it and while they’re at it lets push for 100% coverage in 1 year... lets push the Chinese over the edge and destroy Obama’s plans ... at this point it’s not an “if” question it’s a “when” question so lets get it done and get busy rebuilding.

Some southern democrats in congress are not going along with the Kennedy health Care plan, so there’s still hope.

Sadly many people want a health care plan that costs less than half of what they are paying for their health insurance and allows them unlimited access to the full spectrum of US medical care. They have no concept of how a government run plan will ration their health care.
