The conference on the future of U.S. politics, convened at the American Enterprise Institute on Friday, has come and gone, leaving in its wake more bad news for the Republican Party.
I know. You're asking: "So what else is new?" The GOP has been taking a beating in the public opinion polls of late. What makes this particular set of portends scary for Republicans is that the conferees were not studying mere polling snapshots. They were dealing with demographylong-term trends regarding various voting groups identified by age, race and geographic location. And in politics, demography is destiny.
I'm going to highlight some of the findings as the week progresses. I'll begin today with race.
Here's the bottom line: As the white vote continues to shrink in America, the Democrats are doing a much better job attracting voters of African, Latino and Asian ancestry. Especially in key Electoral College states.

And exactly how much of that Latino vote is presently illegal?
Texas falling to the Rats = Bush/McCain legacy.
“Texas falling to the Rats = Bush/McCain legacy.
Since when did you jump ship? Heck, now you’re with the Obamanites in blaming Bush for everything. The dems have been orchestrating this takeover for 40 years so let’s get off the blame Bush bandwagon.
A lot of people left CA because of high taxes and moved to......Texas. Now they wil ruin Tezas just as they did CA. The same thing happened in NY, WITH FL picking up the new tax and spenders.
Democrats are doing a much better job allowing millions of illegal aliens of Latino ancestry to come into the United States and vote in our elections.
Sheesh, can’t we have one post without you blame Bush people?
He’s gone. Tomorrow is more important. Let it go!
I’m in New Mexico, my son in law is in Texas, trust me.........the good ole boys will keep America in Texas.
And Washington State, and Orygone, and Denver, and Santa Fe, and Nashville, and Austin, and Phoenix.....
Kalifornians are a pestilence.
They don't even look normal.
Plenty of Mexican-American Republicans in Texas.

True, but what states can we grab from the Democrats? I know our money is the southern states, but it makes me nervous that Virginia and North Carolina turned blue. Georgia was bluer than ever before too. I thought we could have made some strides in the mid west, but that did not happen. Hopefully in 2012 it will. Sarah is our savior according to many here. My only question is can she win either Iowa or New Hampshire? I really hate that those two states are first primaries. I think if they stay blue than we need to change the order to one democratic state and one Republican state. Perhaps we should start with New Hampshire and then go directly to South Carolina.
Senator John Cornyn is certainly doing HIS part to water down conservatism.
Why vote Republican when it’s just Dem-Lite? If a voter agrees that ‘Rat policies are best, why vote for an (R) that merely *leans* to the left? Get yourself the real thing!
This is the old, worn-out ‘GOP is dead’ meme.
Don’t fall for it.
Strongest in the (sparsely populated) rural areas... weakest in the heavily populated cities. And the Rio Grande Valley, 95% Hispanic, has totally flipped.
He was even going to support the re-election of Arlene the Sphincter acting as head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. His reply, “Alimentary my dear Watson.”
The winner take all electoral system means we’ve probably seen the last Republican President for at least 40 years. The demographics for minorities and the fleeing of RATS from thier doomed states to the Red states means the END of Republican Presidents. The only chance is to change the winner take all system to a proportional one.
The latino’s I work with are solid conservatives and extremely pro-life.
A lot of high tech immigrants to TX are liberals from CA, OR, WA and North East. We have several friends who’s kids have moved to TX with high tech jobs. The companies like the enviroment, but there new recruits tend to be liberals.
Plus..the invasion continues. A lot of the old hispanics may be conservative, but the illegals and their kin are all socialists..want govt to pay for them. They do vote..TX needs a stronger voter ID law..otherwise the RATS may win.
That map looks to be a representation of Mexican hegemony.
Dont fall for it.”
Agreed, but add in redistricting after the 2010 census and given undeniable demographic trends, the GOP faces a daunting task in Presidential and Congressional elections. The solid red state map may be down to just Alabama and Mississippi come 2012, with lot of the formerly solid red states being a deep shade of purple. The 2010 elections may be the last chance to turn the tide.

Yep. As well, he was all for Geithner the Tax Cheat for Treasury... and he was one of the Original RINO Buttboys for getting the socialist Bailout rolling.
Positively unforgiveably blunders for a conservative. But then Cornyn isn’t a conservative, he’s a conservative poseur.
