They should have given the referees the Conn Smythe Trophy this year. They were clearly the most important people on the ice for the Penguins.
TV coverage is great. They claim 250,000 have shown up. Very fun to watch.
Well...hooray for the Penguins. ‘Burgers must be really going wild. Now if they can only motivate the Pirates this baseball season to be a winning team! Then in Pittsburgh it will be three for three with the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. Go ‘Burgh! My hometown!
now if the pirates can take the worls series...that would be awesome!!
Congrats Penguin Fans! Enjoy!

Will they be lotting and burning the city in celebration? If not, how can they call themselves fans? /semisarc

The parade was great. I got there about two hours early but it was already too late to get close to the stand and big screen. I went to the 5th Super Bowl parade and this was a bigger crowd. Pittsburgh fans celebrate in a good way unlike some other city I could name. The worst thing that happened was a couple of burned couches and some drunks. The police really don’t have much to do.
I loved seeing Crosby hoist the Cup down the Boulevard of the Allies and Talbot and Guerin running around smacking peoples hands.
It’s sad to see the same type of whiners who infect the sports boards posting to this thread.
*yawn*
I didn't get home from work till around 10:00 pm Friday night. I was getting my briefcase and files, I brought home from the office, out of the trunk when GF opened the garage door and yelled, "hurry up and get in here, Pittsburgh is winning". I said "you kidding", and she said no it was 2-0 at the end of the second period. I could not believe it. I didn't think the Pens had a snowball's chance in hell of winning in Detroit. We sit down to watch the 3rd period, and I learn Crosby is hurt, and out of the game, and Talbot scored the two goals - wild. The 3rd period was like Game 6. Detroit was all over Pittsburgh. I'm happy for Malkin on winning the Conn Smythe, but IMO Pens would not have won the Stanley Cup without the brilliant goaltending Fleury showed in the playoffs when he had to make the big saves to deliver game wins.
I'm going to watch the DVRed Game 7 1st and 2nd period tonight along with the live internet recorded parade today. Great year to live in Pittsburgh!
Hey Airborne, re your posted photo of Alyonka Larionov and she was Malkins' GF. Did Alyonka dump her boytoy Alex Overchkin for Geno? Maybe that's why he hated Malkin so much in the Caps series - funny. Looks like good Game 7 ratings. ~ fla
I am a Steelers fan, as far as hockey it’s the St. Louis Blues. But Pennsylvania now has 3 of the 4 major team sport champions with the Steelers, Penguins, and Phillies.
The Steelers and the Penguins may draw similar crowds in Pittsburgh, outside of Pittsburgh the Steelers have a national following.
350,000 expected?
Pfft! Detroit had 1.2 million show up at last year’s event - and that’s in a city that’s half-abandoned.
Now Bettman and Crosby can have their New York date night - just like the Obamas. How romantic it will be. Sidney, don’t forget to wear protection.

Thanks, it's a community effort. Except for the Norm Coleman section, all the political sections need to be updated and weeded out. But I'm on GOP politics vacation until late this Fall. Rats are going to give the GOP, at both the National and States level, another serious beating in next year's election cycle. It will not be a fun year, so I'm milking this year for all it's worth. I never thought I would see the National GOP totally collapse. It's nothing more than a pile of smoldering rubble, with nothing but RINO's emerging from the ashes. Much worse than the post-Nixon years before Reagan was elected. It will take at least a decade to rebuild the Party.
The 2009 NHL Entry Draft will be held at the Bell Centre in Montreal as part of the Canadiens 100th anniversary celebration. It will feature the top 210 skaters and 30 goaltenders from North America, as well as the top 160 skaters and 18 goaltenders from Europe. The players are ranked by the Central Scouting Service, which attends 3,000 games to provide the NHL with evaluations of draft eligible players and a rank order. The New York Islanders will make their selection first, followed by the Tampa Bay Lightning, Colorado Avalanche, Atlanta Thrashers and Los Angeles Kings.
The National Hockey League salary cap for the 2009-10 season will be revealed next week.
