A 12-YEAR-OLD girl who was allowed to live with her 15-year-old boyfriend is set to become one of Australia's youngest mothers.
The girl had been sharing a bed with the father of her baby from the age of 11, after her mother allowed him to move into their home despite her father's pleas to authorities.
When her father complained to staff at the NSW Department of Community Services helpline several times, they failed to do anything about the situation.
Police said they were also unable to intervene because both children were under the age of consent. If the boy had been 18 or older, police would have immediately begun a criminal investigation.
When the girl's father had to take custody of her in March, he discovered his daughter was pregnant.
He is outraged it took the shock news his child was to be a mother for government agencies to finally take notice.
The department admitted yesterday it had failed to act earlier because staff were working on more urgent cases.

Hey, Letterman, want to joke about this?
The Nanny State! Coming to your country SOON!
I remember as a medical student working in the Pediatric clinic seeing a 17 year old mother with her three children. All were there to see pediatricians as all were children. My attending, who had seen a lot in his career, was visibly saddened by the experience. That was in the 80’s, though, today I’m sure it’s very common.
Generations lost.
Father complained about a 15 year old boy in 12 year old daughters bed. He,,,complained. Someones gotta say it, he’s clearly a wuss. That 15 year old shoulda been thrown out a window, in his underwear. Soon to be ex-wife shoulda been next if she says a word.
Even when dad gets arrested for domestic violence, it’d be worth it. Because when daughter is 30, she’ll at least know her dad loved her enough to try!
Agreed, DR, except maybe that 15 year old shoulda been thrown through a window, in his underwear.
WTF??? Isn't that the reason for age of consent laws, that those who are under it cannot consent to sexual relations with ANYONE??
I knew water swirled in toilet bowls backwards down under, but I guess there are more backward things there than we thought...
“When her father complained to staff at the NSW Department of Community Services helpline several times, they failed to do anything about the situation.”
I find that a little hands-on parenting in the form of direct, forceful action can be quite effective in protecting the underage daughter, deterring the unwelcome boyfriend, and discouraging any similar problems from starting up in the future.
I didn’t follow the jump, from the snippet, I just assumed that the parents were divorced and mom was cool with her daughter co-habitating at 11.
Not much dad can do if he’s already out of the picture and she has custody.
You’ll find plenty on FR who are quite alright with this situation. They also support teen sexting as “normal”.
In my state of Victoria, the boy would have been committing an offence, while the girl would not - because Victorian law sets an age of consent of 16, or 10 when the children are within two years of each other.
But New South Wales doesn't have that second criteria and it is generally considered that age of consent laws do not apply when both children are over 10 and under 16.
She WAS the ex wife. She was allowing it in her home, so he wasn't able to provide any "hands on" solutions. He wasn't a wuss, He just didn't want to go to jail for storming into his ex wife's house and assault a 15 year old punk.
He probably would have screwed up his custody case as well.
Partner? As in dad's boyfriend? The entire lot of them needs to spend some time at the loony farm.
The term partner is also commonly used in Australia to refer to a heterosexual partner - not just to homosexual pairings.
From the article:”When the girl's father had to take custody of her in March, he discovered his daughter was pregnant.”
This would lead me to believe his wife was already an ex and that she had custody of the girl until March. There isn't much he could do if he didn't even live there. What was he supposed to do camp out in front of the house 24x7? I think you owe him an apology as he is the only sane person mentioned in the article.
Damn straight!
Police intervention is applicable only if one of the playmates is below the age of consent. When they are both under the age of consent—well you’ll have to rout out many a junior high if that’s the case.
The children could not be charged. The mother should have been charged with child endangerment or contributing to the delinquency of a minor or something like that.
The father did the right thing. I he had assaulted the boy he would not be in a position to take custody of his daughter through the court system.
