Although I have nothing against this sort of gathering, I'm going to have to disagree with you there. The most civilized thing to happen in Pinellas all year was me moving here.
Hey! There's four weekends in every month. Most of 'em anyway. ;^)
“The media continually trash The South as uncivilized, uncouth, ignorant....” because of this type of party. Guess what obama media? This goes on in Vermont, California, Wisconsin and a lot other places other than the South. We just have better weather to party more during the year. My son just celebrated his 14th birthday and had a hell of a time. Even has the scars to prove it. If, during a mudding event, someone doesn’t get hurt or something doesn’t get broke, then it wasn’t a good party.
Alchohol, Tobacco and Firearms: Recipe for a grety party.
EXACTLY!
I posted this because I feel it shows that southern and country culture is not yet dead in the ObamaNation.
These young people might not be celebrating in the same way country guys and gals did a generation or two ago but to me they show the same spirit.
At these gatherings you will see plenty of American flags and patriotic bumper stickers, and will hear a lot of country music with patriot themes and messages.
And don't ignore the fact that the author seemed to be hell bent on showing the seedier side of the gathering, and writing with a tone that is definitely snarky at times. If there were arrests, shootings and significant abuse of anything or anyone we can be assured this reporter would have had it in the headlines - but there isn't any mention of such events at all.
I believe the real message still comes through loud and clear - for the most part this is relatively (by today's standards) wholesome fun by good old boys and gals.
Agreed. Having grown up in a mostly black neighborhood I could write something much snarkier about them, but I hope I’m not so narrow that I don’t see that there are good folks there.

Exactly. Most of them probably weren’t slave holders, either.
Black Rednecks and White Liberals

“There were many black slave holders ...notably in the southern regions of Louisiana.”
And he might even prefer his girls' bottoms to have some mudflaps on 'em.
“Gimme back my bullets”
I think it’s possible to be morally clean in the mud.
And it would have to be confessed that there is no scientific instrument to measure “sexual tension in the atmosphere.” This might be mostly the writer’s dirty mind running away with him. Though I still wouldn’t approve of a four year old kid demanding a stranger lady show her endowments, that’s awful precocious. Can’t his dad or mom or uncle or aunt, whoever is watching after him, make him wait till he’s 13 or something.
and somehow the newspaper report thought that was a bad thing...
A leftist (moder liberal/modern progressive) is someone who stays up at night worrying that somehow, somewhere sombody is happy and having a good time.
Bless me, Father, for I want to sin.
I got in trouble for trying to read what was on the back of one girl's thong.
Upon closer inspection, it turned out it wasn't writing...
Sweet Home Alabama===Skynyrd version AND Kid Rock version. You bet.
Yes, while You Liberals (no, not you, TIH) were sipping overpriced lattes and whining about how much money other people made, some people were actually having a good time!
You have a point. Would that incident count as statutory rape or contributing to the delinquency of a minor?
And we were tryin’ different things, and we were smoking funny things...
I could go for a weekend like that! Yeehaw!
