Truthfully, both are outrageous. When someone with GOP ties does such things, it makes it easier for the Dems to allege we’re all racists. And the Press is happy to report it as fact.
Don’t continue to reinforce the notion to the left that all they have to do is call us “racists” and we’ll stop criticizing them.

Yes, the “press” don’t need anything to make a story about conservatives anyway. Spin is their game.
There are no black or white apes. Thus to tie a racist label to the comment is stupid and intentionaly fraudulent. The lie proffered regarding the comment being racist is deliberately to hide a greater truth.
The basic position of most of the left is anti-religious/anti-creationist/pro-Darwinist. Their belief is that man evolved from apes. The comment from the activist has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the belief system of liberals ie... if you evolved from the ape, then the ape has to be your relative.
The persistent position of a liar is that no matter what you do, they will lie to oppose and discredit you no matter how careful you are. They will correspondingly compromise you into ineffectiveness.
The appropriate and ONLY antidote to this position is to grow a pare and give it back to them. Something limp-wristed Repubs and “Conservatives” have been negligent in doing.
Your comment that the activists statement was somehow “inappropriate” is a false statement, playing right into the hands of the lying left.
