Obama DID talk to Blagojevich about the Senate seat on November 5th
Posted by Christophe on Dec 10th, 2008
Barack Obama claims he never spoke to Governor Rod Blagojevich about filling his vacant Senate seat. On November 5th, the state of Illinois issued a press release saying Obama and Blagojevich did indeed talk about filling Obamas vacant Senate seat.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 5, 2008 Governor Blagojevich Congratulates President-elect Obama and Discusses U.S. Senate Seat To fill President-Elect Barack Obamas Senate seat, Governor will use deliberate process to select suitable replacement
CHICAGO After congratulating President-Elect Barack Obama on his decisive victory, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich announced today that he will take his time and use a diverse senior staff made up of key members of his administration who will assist him in selecting a suitable replacement for Obama. Last nights victory was bittersweet for Illinois as we gain a great President, we lose a great Senator. And it goes without saying that our next Senator has big shoes to fill. Because its important that the best person for Illinois is selected, I want to be clear that the calendar wont dictate our search. Instead, I want to ensure that Obamas successor will understand and fight for the needs of average Illinoisans, Governor Blagojevich said. Governor Blagojevich will be looking for candidates that will: Support the President-Elects agenda for the people; Effectively represent the interests of the state of Illinois in the U.S. Congress; Work with my administration to achieve our shared goals of ensuring access to affordable healthcare, rebuilding Illinois infrastructure, improving the economic security and livelihoods of Illinois workers, and caring for our most vulnerable; and, Prioritize the average Illinoisan who is too burdened by taxes and economic hardship. The U.S. Constitution, 17th Amendment, provides that a state legislature may empower the executive of the state to make the appointment. Amendment XVII to the United States Constitution gives the Governor the authority to fill a vacancy in a Senate seat. See text below: United States Constitution: Amendment XVII The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each state, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote. The electors in each state shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislatures. When vacancies happen in the representation of any state in the Senate, the executive authority of such state shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, that the legislature of any state may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct. This amendment shall not be so construed as to affect the election or term of any Senator chosen before it becomes valid as part of the Constitution.

Rasmussen poll shows 45% think Hussein involved with scandal. It’s another flip flop. Hussein was before he wasn’t. He wasn’t after his picks weren’t on Gov. B’s short list. It’s Chicago style Arkancide.

It’s fascinating how all this has been pushed under the rug. The Obama machine is counting on us citizens to have a short memory.
On a related note: I saw something the other day that was both optimistic and interesting, perhaps indicating that the Obama mystique is fading. I was in a 7-11 type market (not a 7-11 per se, one like it though). There on the floor was a box packed with lots of left-over Obama memorabilia including T-shirts, posters, coloring books, etc. They were all stuffed in the box and a sign reading "50% off" was attached. Nice to think the excitement might be wearing thin.
I don’t think Fitz has the gold-plated, titanium stones to “Scooterize” the TOTUS if he gets caught in a process crime (mis-statement to Federal authorities, forgot, mis-spoke, no specific recollection, etc.).
Whatever other evidence there is, this isn’t it.
This press release never says Blago talked to Obama about his replacement.
Congressman Kirk will probably run for the U.S. Senate. If he does, who will run for Kirk’s U.S. House seat? I hope that many people, who live in or near the 10th Congressional District, have thought about this. Because of the 2010 census, Illinois will probably lose a congressional district, and some people who live in Barrington, Des Plaines, and/or Zion will live in that district.
The dopey yuppies who vote for her because "she's nice"...yikes!
Last time I saw Colin, maybe a month ago, he said he hadn't heard of anyone serious running yet...too bad we couldn't convince Kathy Salvi...I cannot think of anyone else right now.
Which Republican should run for Kirk’s seat, since he probably won’t run for re-election? I read that State Rep. Coulson might run.
About a month ago, State Sen. Duffy told me, through facebook, that he would ask State Sen. Pam Altoff to run against Rep. Bean. I don’t know whether she’s considering it.
I don’t know Coulson.
Let’s hope someone electable steps up...
Thanks very much for the post/links. BUMP-TO-THE-TRUTH!
