Walpin-gate: Obama fires an IG (who was investigating a crony)
The Washington Times ^ | June 15, 2009 | Editorial

Posted on 06/14/2009 7:18:37 PM PDT by Abakumov

Congress ought to open an investigation, New York Times editorialists should be in a state of apoplexy, and MSNBC hosts ought to be frothing at the mouth. Without appropriate documentation or good reason, President Obama has fired a federal investigator who was on the case against a political ally of the president's. Mr. Obama's move has the stench of scandal.

“Also it looks like he violated a law that VOTED for..”

Grounds for impeachment?

The language of the law as posted herein does not say anything about Congress has to approve of the President firing or transferring. Am I missing something?

The law says he must notify congress in writing 30 days before firing an Inspector General. Obama never notified congress, and fired him within one hour after first making his complaint.

Presumably the 30 day rule is to give congress enough time to investigate the problem and prevent the firing if they so choose.

This whistle-blower coverup is just the beginning. The corruption that will follow in the wake of trillions of dollars of “stimulus” money will make the Katrina fiasco of corruption, fraud, and waste look like somebody took too many pennies out of the local mini-mart “take-a-penny” cup.

And the Obama mob will do whatever it takes to cover it up.
Bend over, taxpayers, and have a tub of vaseline handy. Here comes Obama...

The editors who wrote this line must have been laughing... It would be like Attorney General Frank Nitti opening an investigation of President Al Capone.

>>Paging Woodward and Bernstien.

Yeah right. Those two leftist traitors are in on the destruction of America along with acorn, holder, obama and all
the other trash running this country into the ground.

America needs some brave patriots to defend her now more than ever!

UPDATE: Grassley protests, demands information, including any role of First Lady

Iowa Republican Sen. Charles Grassley, a longtime champion of inspectors general, has sent a letter to Alan Solomont, head of the Corporation for National and Community Service, which oversees AmeriCorps. Describing Walpin’s work as “legitimate” and “meritorious,” Grassley expressed concern that Walpin was fired in part for complaining to Congress about interference in the St. HOPE probe by the top management of the Corporation. “I am very concerned about the appearance that the IG’s communication with my office about this matter may have contributed to his removal,” Grassley wrote to Solomont. “Inspectors General have a statutory duty to report to Congress. Intimidation or retaliation against those who freely communicate their concerns to Members of the House and Senate cannot be tolerated. This is especially true when such concerns are as legitimate and meritorious as Mr. Walpin’s appear to be.”

Saying that “it is vital that Congress obtain a full understanding of the role that you and your colleagues at [the Corporation] played in these matters,” Grassley asked Solomont to provide all records, email, documents, and other communications relating to Walpin’s firing. He specifically asked for Corporation records involving contacts with the U.S. attorney’s office, the White House, and the Office of the First Lady. “No records related to these matters shall be destroyed or otherwise made inaccessible to Congress,” Grassley wrote.

If they didn’t go berserk over his combining government and private corporations, then allowing them to go bankrupt, giving the lions share back to the UAW as a political pay off, they wont jump on this.

How long before we have Obama's moment like this? Please, oh please....

Hah. If Obama has a moment like that, the state-run media will give him a pass.

If it happens to be the same scenario (an intern in the oval office), the media will crucify the little b*tch for the damage (s)he's done to the First Family.

Remember, please, that the complaints that were being investigated stemmed from the camp of former mayor Fargo, a huge lib, and it stank of back room politics. The U.S. attorney found no criminal conduct but the incumbent Dem (Fargo) and her camp kept up the pressure hoping to derail Johnson’s mayoral bid. Elevating KJ to one of BHO’s ‘biggest supporters’ is a bit far fetched and sounds like a lot of hyperbole to make him sound more important so the scandal sounds more raunchy.

Having watched this thing play out locally I really think Fargo created a lot of noise for political reasons, and that the IG should have closed the case when the US Atty did.

That is quite literally true. Is is very difficult to get people to grasp the extent of the theft of our nation's treasury that just took place.

Thank you W., Obama, McCain, the House, the Senate and all the rest of our 'great' leaders!

I seriously doubt it will be a b!tch.

This makes me wonder about something. They wanted Bush impeached for firing some federal attorneys who were leftovers from the Clinton Admin. I wonder what Obama did about federal attorneys when he took office. Did he fire all the Bush leftovers and replace them?

This is really serious. More serious than the firing of attorneys during Bush. Inpsector General cannot be fired outright until there is a 30 day grace period. Was there any? None that I am aware of.
