Two separate home robbery attempts were foiled Monday when Twin Counties residents freed themselves from restraints and chased down their alleged assailants.
Spencer Cockrell told authorities he cut himself loose and grabbed his gun late Monday night after he and his wife were tied down at their Nash County home and robbed at gunpoint by two Rocky Mount men, later identified as Jesus Pryor and Justin L. Shaw.
Deputies said Cockrell freed himself as Pryor, 27, and Shaw, 22, fled the scene. Cockrell chased after them with a gun, officials said. Cockrell told authorities he found Pryor outside the home, attempting to cut the phone line.
Pryor allegedly raised his gun, deputies said, and Cockrell fired shots at the suspect, striking him in the arm and buttocks.
Pryor ran and later was found bleeding in the back of a pickup truck on Old Carriage Road, near the alleged crime scene. He was taken to Nash General Hospital then airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, where he remained in stable condition Tuesday.
Authorities were continuing to search for Shaw on Tuesday.
Arrion T. Dickens, a suspected getaway driver in the burglary, was found in Rocky Mount early Tuesday and arrested, authorities said. Dickens, 26, was charged with first-degree burglary and two counts of second-degree kidnapping. Similar charges will be filed against Pryor once hes released from the hospital, deputies said.
No charges will be filed against Cockrell, deputies said.
Other resilient victims
Another robbery attempt was thwarted earlier in the day Monday when an Edgecombe County woman used a kitchen knife to cut her and her family free after allegedly being tied down by two suspects, authorities said.
Deputies arrested two Rocky Mount men, Lamont D. Lloyd and Rushun K. Pittman, in connection to the incident and charged them both with first-degree burglary, three counts of second-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony larceny.
A male victim told authorities Lloyd and Pittman forced themselves into his Medford Road home around 5:30 a.m. Monday and threatened the family with a pistol, Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight said. Knight said the suspects tied down the resident, his wife and their young son and ransacked the residence, stealing $600 in cash and jewelry.
The wife managed to grab a kitchen knife and cut her family free, Knight said, and her husband chased after the suspects while a neighbor called the police.
Thanks in part to the quick response by both the victims and law enforcement, Knight said, Lloyd and Pittman were captured in Halifax County, not far from the scene of the crime.
Both men were arrested and taken to Edgecombe County jail. Pittman, 25, is being held under a $600,000 bond.
Lloyd, 20, also had warrants for his arrest in Tarboro and Pitt County for a parole violation and robbery. Hes being held under a $272,000 bond.
These victims saved themselves.
The 2nd. Amendment is your friend.
I’m continually dumb-founded at our totally inadequate and pathetic criminal injustice system. To wit: “Lloyd, 20, also had warrants for his arrest in Tarboro and Pitt County for a parole violation and robbery. Hes being held under a $272,000 bond.” So if this guy can raise $27,000 (10% of his bond amount)he can bond out on this charge. My suggestion to the first victim — get a larger caliber handgun and/or hollow point bullets and spend more time on the range so you could have offed the one guy so that your hard earned money would now not have to be spent incarcerating the animal (for what will undoubtedly be an inadequate amount of time before he is let back out to victimize someone else).
Whew! Fortunately the prep raised his gun and the victim was allowed to defend himself.
I wonder what the outcome would have been if the prep was simply just shot for his crimes by the homeowner?
Criminal charges, grand jury inquiry for shooting him without the benefit of self defense ?

Typical Obama voters
Notice both homes had a man and woman present who worked as a team to defeat the invaders. Strong family plus the 2nd amendment equals safety and security.
Did you catch that? Who do you think paid for that? It had to cost at least $25,000 for the whole deal. What a country. We must be rich.
