On warrant for ex-mayor Kilpatrick, Texas and Detroit officials play dodgeball
By DARREN BARBEE

The confusing saga of disgraced former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and the unissued warrant for his arrest continues.

Exactly who can issue a warrant for the Southlake resident is a thorny question.

Officials’ most common answer: Ask someone else.

Michigan prosecutors demanded to know why a warrant wasn’t issued after Kilpatrick failed to pay all of his $6,000 monthly restitution on time. They wanted to drag Texas authorities or officials with the Tarrant County Community Supervision and Corrections Department to a Detroit court to answer why Kilpatrick wasn’t under lock and key.

Jim Sinclair, assistant director for the Tarrant probation office, said his office takes its marching orders from the Texas Interstate Compact for Probation and Parole Supervision, since Kilpatrick is an out-of-state probationer.

"Anything that we’re going to do . . . is going to come down through Texas compact office in Austin," Sinclair said.

Not so fast.

Under the rules of the compact, for a person on probation to be retaken there must be three significant violations of probation requirements or a new felony offense committed, said director Regina Grimes.

"That hasn’t happened here," she said.

Grimes said Michigan authorities must recommend issuing the warrant.

Over to John Cordell, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections, who says it’s up to the presiding judge to issue the warrant. The judge in the case had no comment.

However, judges respond to requests for warrants. Last week’s motion by prosecutors was for an inquiry, not a request to show why a warrant should be issued.

Even after his conviction, jail time and release on probation I never thought America would be rid of this slimeball any time soon. Detroit gets what they deserve. Unfortunately, Texas and the rest of America will have to suffer, too.

Shout out to Texans! Watch out for King Kwame (thug...ex-mayor of Detroit). He shouldn’t be allowed in your state due to a subsection called “interstate garbage” in the interstate commerce clause. /sarcasm

He is a POS.

Condolences.

Anyone know what Kwame Kilpatrick is doing in Tarrant County? Job or what else he’s occupied with?

He’s “working” at a friend’s company and being paid around $100K per year. Don’t know exactly what he is doing, but I’m sure it isn’t very demanding.

Interesting that he chose Republican Southlake versus, say, Oak Cliff?

Oh, it's a better deal than that.

He's working for Covisint, a division of Compuware, which has it's world HQ in Detroit (at the moment). Karamanos, the founder and CEO of Compuware, gave Kwame a $180,000 position when he got out of the slammer as a sales rep but he's got the potential to earn around $350,000 after bonuses.

Kwmae is currently renting a house in Southlake that's worth over $1 million. He has to pay $6,000 a month in restitution for stealing $8 million of Detroit's money, yet his attorney claims he can only afford $6 a month. SOMEBODY is kicking in to pay Former Mayor Hip-Hop's rent.

He moved into the gated community because he didn't like being pursued by the press.

WXYZ's Steve Wilson, where are you, buddy? You're needed in the Lone Star state!

Southlake. Very nice. A rather exclusive community not too far from DFW. A friend of mine has a home there. A very impressive area.

Start reading up on interstate/intrastate laws. I am telling you they are one of the biggest problems America has and the Congress is responsible for most of them.

Did you get a look at this jackass crooks new house. If he had earned the money; rather than stolen the money; it would be okay.

Degraded criminals and liberals with money (or influence) can be counted on to move from their soiled nests to well kept, affluent, and functioning communities.

They then promptly begin the process of infecting the new community with their filth and garbage.

Great summary.

However, if someone else is paying part or all of the the ex-mayor’s rent, then the IRS would consider it as earned income. Gifts are limited to $11,000 per year with lots of restrictions.

Oh, wait, I forgot that Terrible Timmy controls the IRS. He is smart enough to head that investigation off without even a call from his mob boss.
