"This is a surrender of our principles. Free speech is worthwhile."

Tell that to Don Imus.

I agree with your premise, but the only group that actually enjoys free speech is liberals. What they say is free, what we say is hate.

And while it's important not to surrender our principles, it's equally important not to surrender the battlefield. And, by ceding to the liberals, and their partners in crime in the ubiquitous media, the ability to say whatever they want, while editing every word that comes out of our mouth, is equally self-defeating.

Exactly. Free speech has to apply to everyone, not just lefting moonbats.

Had a Republican said any of these jokes, it would be front page headlines and debate for at least a week.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences for the stupid ass things you say. Letterman crossed the line big time, and he needs to pay the piper. He is free to say it, and the public is free to tell him to go screw himself. The public is free to turn off the tv whenever this no talent ass clown shows his face, and we are free to boycott any sponsors who support him. Period.

The man was railroaded.

According to them, yes. According to many on this board, exactly the opposite is true. Both are wrong.

>> And while it’s important not to surrender our principles, it’s equally important not to surrender the battlefield.

Fight the good fight. This is not the battlefield, this is a distraction. There is a definite distinction between fighting for what you believe, and getting bent out of shape by every tasteless joke from a two-bit comedian. Letterman simply does not merit this much attention from the right.
