Well - President Bush backed the secession of Kosovo from Serbia in spite of Serbia’s objections to splitting up the country. And in spite of the fact that not all residents of Kosovo supported the secession movement.

The secession was because of supposed cultural and religious differences which would be the some of the same reasons various regions of the USA might want to follow suit.

So I’m sure that even though he is now a former president, he would would rally other prestigious public figures to join him in backing any region of the US that wants to secede and go off on it’s own.

" Picture an America that is run not, as now, by a top-heavy Washington autocracy but, in freewheeling style, by an assemblage of largely autonomous regional republics reflecting the eclectic economic and cultural character of the society."

Isn't that pretty much what the Founders imagined as well?
That's certainly what the Constitution provides for.

“...by an assemblage of largely autonomous regional republics reflecting the eclectic economic and cultural character of the society.”

There should be 50 of those RIGHT NOW. Let’s restore our founders’ vision

Didn’t some Russian academic type just a few months ago suggest that within a few years the US would break up into 3 parts (countries)?

Contemporary America as a unit of governance may be too big...Her conviction is that large systems tend not to endure—“they break apart, there’s chaos, and at some point, new things form,” she said.

We keep hearing about "too big to fail", but the bloated federal government is now a case of too big to succeed.

It is time to enact Joe Biden’s plan to partition the country into three parts - here, instead of Iraq.

Let each republic draw up a Constitution of its own, based on Liberal, Conservative and Moderate beliefs. Then, let the people decide under which flag they will live.

It can still be done peaceably - but for how much longer?

dico ut telum! dico ut telum!

everyone here on this thread needs to recite the pledge of allegiance out loud. Maybe they forgot the part that comes directly after the “under god” part.

_After Things Fell Apart_ may be justly considered one of Goulart's very best novels. It is set in the environs of San Francisco during a time in which, well, everything _has_ fallen apart. There has been a guerrila invasion of the Chinese, the government has collapsed, robots and machines are constantly breaking down, there are regular riots on the Golden Gate Bridge, the traditional Mafia is competing against the Amateur Mafia (no Italians allowed), drugrunning and prostitution is normal, back to nature communes are springing up, and Richard Nixon is still alive.

A pair of prophetic primers? In any case, I enjoyed laughing my way through both, when they first came out.

It is less funny or fun to be living through the birth pangs of it.

I’ve wondered what the country of Columbia would be like.

I can see that Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alberta and British Columbia would make a wonderful country.

Look at all the resources, the ocean, the fishing, the farmlands.

Looks we have a race to see which mega government will fall next. The last one to fall was the Soviet Union. The race right now is between the US and China. China was ahead early, but the US has dramatically flown past China in record speed.

Folks,

I am not particularly religious, but I pray to God each day that we can a path to secession (peacefully, if possible). I believe wholeheartedly that this is the only “out” available to us — since our political class has essentially bankrupted us — and the only way in which the vision of the Founding Fathers can yet be redeemed.
