If yesterday's Holocaust Museum slaying of security guard and national hero Stephen Tyrone Johns is not a clarion call for banning hate speech, I don't know what is. Playwright Janet Langhart Cohen appeared on CNN yesterday right after the shooting, as she wrote a play that was supposed to have been debuted at the Holocaust Museum last night. Her play is about Emmett Till, whose lynching helped launch the Civil Rights Movement, and Ann Frank, whose diary told the story of Holocaust victims in hiding in the Netherlands during World War II.
She said something must be done about ridding the Internet and the public dialogue of hate speech. I agree. Not only have we had three hate crime murders within the last two weeks (Mr. Johns, as noted above, Dr. George Tiller a week ago last Sunday, and Pvt. William Andrew Long by an American-born Muslim convert outside a recruiting station just before that.)
Now we have this quote from Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who used to be President Obama's pastor. Hate comes from among all peoples and all religions. He said this about his lack of communication with Barack Obama since he's been elected president:
"Them Jews ain't going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office," Wright told the Daily Press of Newport News following a Tuesday night sermon at the 95th annual Hampton University Ministers' Conference.
It's not enough to prosecute these murders as murders. They are hate-motivated crimes and each of these men had been under some sort of police surveillance prior to their actions. Isn't it time we started rounding up promoters of hate before they kill?

The more I read about things like this, it becomes obvious that Orwell’s “1984” is materializing in front of our eyes.
There are alot of asses in this world who say asinine things. We may not agree with the things they say, but we should defend their right to say these asinine things.
It’s their parents who should have raised them up to believe that “just because you have the right to say something, doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to say” and “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say it at all”.
Just like every one of our other God-given rights in this world...the govt needs to stay out of it.
Response: The "Haters" to be determined by the editorial boards of the MSM.
Comment: Yet another step to the coming Social War.
That's a fairly simple question.
Imprison them until they no longer hate people?
Strip them of their opinions?
Deprogramming?
Mind control?
It’s only a matter of time before the round US up.
He and Tiller are the heroes to them. I’m surprised she even mentioned Pvt. Long. But - all this is more of the “never let a crisis go to waste” stuff for the obama admin. They’ll use all of this for their evil means.
When a man dies defending others, in this case successfully, in my book that makes him a hero. Mr. Johns is every bit as much a hero as our troops fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Inciting a riot is not protected speech. Neither is yelling fire in a crowded movie house, libel, slander, or treason.
The most reason macaca moment from Jeremiah Wright didn’t raise to the level of incitement but if you go over 20 years of past transcripts and sermons on tape, there may be some that rise to the level of hatred espoused by Louis Farrahkahn at his own rallies.
Correct. His action was heroic. It was also a part of his job. He gave his life protecting others. He was hired as security and he shouldn’t have had to die but he did so that others may live.
Google up Bonnie Erbe for her uhh....opinions. Please furnish your own barf bucket.
I went to Erbe’s blog site and left a comment against her fascist statement.
There were only 11 other comments, however, all of them nailed her to the wall for her suggestion. Interestingly, the comments came from people from different states.
you use the /s tag, but it is not needed, as you are speaking the truth of the leftist ideology. Words mena what they decide.
And this is where we have lost much of our battle.
In any debate, the one who defines the terms wins the debate. Ergo...”choice” vs murder...”gay” vs...
..you get the idea.
What a hateful thing to say. Send this author to Palau.
Thanks, Bonnie, but I’m too old for summer camp, even if there’s re-education to be had there. If it ever does come to that we all may be surprised at who’s standing next to us at the barricades. The only worse thing than a Jeremiah Wright is someone who wants to put him - and me - away for everybody’s good. I might hate his guts but I’d pass him ammo. No sale, darling.
