Amanda Knox in Testimony Alleges Police Abuse, Admits Drug Use

Amanda Knox told an Italian court Friday that police abused her and called her as a "stupid liar" when they questioned her over the murder of Meredith Kercher.

The American is giving evidence for the first time at her trial in Perugia, where she is charged with sexually assaulting and murdering her roommate.

Knox, 21, said police officers accused her of trying to protect someone after Kercher was found semi-naked with her throat slit in November 2007.

She testified that she had been struck by police during questioning.

"When I denied that they called me a stupid liar," she told the court. "From that point on I was very scared because they were treating me so badly."

This is a weird case. I think Knox will be convicted, however.

Typical....ignore the crime, but whine about police brutality.

You have no idea what you're talking about. The murderer has already been tried. Misconduct by the prosecutor in this case is staggering. He has a long history of this sort of thing and just recently an American journalist barely escaped another of his set ups. Ask any Italian about the police in this area and how they behave toward foreigners caught up in these situations. This girl has undoubtedly suffered physical abuse, much of which she is unable to talk about.

This is a railroad job by a prosecutor who should be in jail.

She seems deeply implicated in this, to me.

“This girl has undoubtedly suffered physical abuse, much of which she is unable to talk about.”

Not as much physical abuse as her victim suffered.

The knife, if you watched the Dateline review of this story, isn't the knife that killed Kercher. I believe it's been thrown out as evidence. It didn't fit the size of the wound in Kercher and, from what I saw, the DNA on the blade is less than a 1% match to Kercher. The prosecutions says it is the murder weapon and that the minute amount of DNA is hers. But he's a habitual liar. The knife the prosecution has is not the murder weapon. Rudy Guede, a man with a history of crime, was there that night and his DNA is all over Kercher's room. It's on her body, it's on her toilet paper and it's on her tampon. His bloodstained hand print was on her pillow and his footprints in blood were on her floor. He claims they went to her room for consensual sex but it didn't work out. He claims he went to the bathroom with stomach pains and when he came out he saw Sollecito stabbing Kercher to death on her bed. He also claims Knox was present. It's interesting to note that this story is different from his first story in which he claims that he was in Kercher's room alone. His story changed after spending time with the police and the scumbag prosecutor. It is also important to remember that Guede left Italy right after the murder and was caught in Germany.

Knox had no motive. The prosecution claims that after a night of drug fueled orgies, that included this Guede guy who is a black immigrant from the Ivory Coast, Knox held her roommate down while Sollecito plunged a knife into Kercher's neck numerous times. Huh? I don't care how little you know about drugs, smoking pot isn't going to turn anyone into a crazed knife murderer. These people knew each other. They were friends. Guede is the odd man out. He did this alone. He went to her room wanting sex and reacted violently when she resisted, and then he raped and killed her.

This is a sham. An American girl has been set up and is living a nightmare because of it. The prosecutor is currently under indictment in his own country for obstruction of justice and several other complaints. He's also a head case. This whole set up is to draw attention away from his own misdeeds. Lock her up and throw away the keys? This is banana republic justice and anyone who supports it is just plain ignorant.

Then you're as ignorant as the others here who use this story alone to determine that she's guilty. There are two sides to the story and you seem eager to believe whatever you're being spoon fed. The media is lazy and government, especially this prosecutor, is corrupt. If you've spent more than a month on this site you should understand that this is common.

I have friends and family members who live or have lived in this area and know how the police and this prosecutor work. Google and read about the case of American writer Douglas Preston and what Mignini did to him. This man is an out of control despot who set this poor girl and her boyfriend up. They no more murdered Kercher than you did. Of course, knowing that would take some time and effort.

Methinks you are way overinvested in this woman. I saw your comments on another thread about her also. I think you might be a tad unhinged about this subject. And, by the way, I’ve been on this site since 1998; I see you first showed up in 2004, newbie.

Over invested? This girl, an American, is being railroaded in a foreign country and all you want to do is whine about me educating you on the facts?

Maybe you could point me to the other thread where I commented about this case. I don't recall doing so and given your aversion to facts, a link would be appreciated.

FReepers are suggesting that the Italians lock up an American girl for the rest of her life based on the total fabrications of a corrupt and despotic government official and you think I'm unhinged for pointing out their ignorance?

If you've been here since 1998 then I understand your embarrassment over having a newbie like me show you that the government and the media cannot always be trusted with the truth.

I was going to say about the same thing you did, but you said it so much better that I. This girl Knox isn't an angel but she didn't murder anyone and neither did Sollecito. Guede is the killer and the prosecutor is a lunatic.

Thanks. I am amazed at the comments on this thread (and others) about what is happening to this girl. I have relatives, who live(d) near Perugia that can tell all sorts of horror stories about Mignini. Even so, the facts in this case are such that this girl should never have been put on trial in the first place. This is the kind of crap you'd expect to see in some South American or African banana republic but not in Italy. The more international press the story receives the better her chances are for being allowed to come home. Time will tell....

After forgetting my library book in my room, I just happened to pick up The Monster of Florence at the airport last week, and finished it last night.

If it wasn’t enough to read the story of Italy’s Jack the Ripper and how this psycho Mignini and his cohort police inspector Giuttari let the real killer slip thru their fingers while they destroyed the lives of several innocents, I was filled with despair when I read the Afterword and learned that Mignini was still the prosecutor of Perugia, in charge of Amanda Knox’s trial. I could not sleep thinking that this poor girl’s case is practically hopeless under these circumstances.

I very well may have the opportunity to visit Italy next year on business, and I’ll have to weigh that chance very carefully before I accept the assignment.

The author of that book is the one who was also targeted by Mignini. If he hadn't left the country the crazed prosecutor would have found some way to put him in jail. Anyone doubting the sanity of Mignini should read the book. Doug Preston was fortunate. Knox was not. Knox's behavior hasn't helped her case but she's a young girl in a foreign country being help by corrupt and brutal officials for the horrific murder of her friend. Facing that plus the prospect of a lifetime in jail might make my behavior a little unusual too.

The kid is being railroaded and the lazy media here isn't reporting enough of the information available. I sure wouldn't want to have to prove my innocence vs. Mignini and his corrupt minions.

Except she’s only going to spend 26 years of her life in Prison, instead of contemplating suffering some of the pain, humiliation and fear her victim felt, as she spends the last few minutes of her life standing pinioned and hooded on top of a wooden trapdoor as she deserves, thanks to Italy’s (in common with most of EUrope’s) phaggot justice system....
