The big DTV moment is here - like New Year's Eve, labor pains or the millennium.. For once, a technology change is not driven by the youn. Senior citizens are the most prepared, according to Neilsen. Yes, the old folks rule.

That’s ‘cause they got cable.
Oh my....I was thinking Dumbass TV - Gore’s channel.
Waiting for FIOS to be available in my area. I'll check that out. My sister likes it.
Can I still watch “My Little Margie”?
The media has been counting down to this day for two years or longer, but I’m sure there will be lots of people today stumbling in to RadioShack, desperate to find out what happened to their Jerry Springer.
I found plans for a fractal DTV antenna that shows promise. Out here it looks like elevation is key; I’ll know later.
About a year ago I pick up a decent digital tv for my 88 yr old mom. hooked it up to the old antenna on the roof got the rotor working ( Remember them things !! )and now it gets all the San Diego channels plus some of the Los Angeles ones , great picture!!!. She’s happy as a clam.
So what’s the problem ?
If you're serious, Freepmail me and I can offer some assistance...depending on what you have and what you need. (And of course, your budget).
The did this on a Friday?
Great idea. Let people come home Friday evening and stew three days.
No! You won't be watching 'The Real McCoys', 'Our Miss Brooks', 'Private Secretary', 'The Lone Ranger' or 'Hopalong Cassidy' either.
And wait and see what happens when Homeland Security gets hold of that 'Mr. Wizard' guy Don Herbert.

Has reviews for a lot of digital TV antennas (they are not all the same, and frankly the ones you buy locally are pretty much crap.)
http://antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx
Has info on which stations are digital in your area, where to point you antenna, and explains the color coding system (so you know what type of antenna to get.)

If you are in the mood to do it yourself, the above antenna can be built from parts you probably have laying around the house, and will give you as good reception as any commercial antenna.

One of the subforums on this site is dedicated to antenna building, and has a lot of info on building the HG antenna.
Don’t worry. Obammy’s giving everyone a free antenna on your dime.
Stores that can help you fix it are open all weekend. Really Friday is probably the best time, since the weekend is the normal time for that working around the house hanging antennas type stuff. The important part is it’s finally DONE. They first started discussing this digital change over when Clinton was in the White House and Tom Snyder was on TV, in the meantime Snyder retired twice and died.
Most HD is going over UHF (because it takes less power than VHF to broadcast), but I believe doesn’t have as long a range (someone correct me if I’m wrong here.)
Did you receive your old UHF stations well?
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Does anyone know if having a digital TV is enough? Or will I still need a converter box? I've got cable.
You should be fine.
UHF was not too good. I have a mountain between me and denver is the main problem. I used to live farther south and could see the lights form the TV antenna farm and could get 22 stations on rabbit ears.
Progress= bigger and better mistakes.
