Completing the Obama Administration's plan to replace its fleet of government vehicles with newer, more efficient vehicles, the U.S. General Services Administration is reporting a purchase of roughly $210 million worth of new vehicles from Chrysler, Ford and General Motors.
Of the three American automakers, Ford was the clear winner of government funds with a total of 7,924 Blue Ovals bought and paid for at a total of $129 million (about $16,280 per car). GM was well represented too with the Fed's $105 million outlay bringing in a total of 6,348 cars (about $16,540 per car). Chrysler held up the rear with a total of 2,933 vehicles purchased for $53 million (about $18,070 per car).

Since I bought a Jeep in 03, I received a letter from the Chrysler Chairman yesterday giving me a $1000 rebate on any vehicle that is eligible for the program.
I don’t know, kinda shows how great a business man he is. LOL!
Someone in government is actually thinking ahead?
We got one too.
I imagine it was the closure of contract talks already in progress. I doubt anybody in the gov was thinking ahead. Congrats to Ford though!
Watch: The gpovernment will force Ford to take the vehicles back after it’s revealed that they bought from an actual capitalist company. They’ll only have 20-25K miles on them by then.
The one still standing alone...until Obomba forces his hand on them via "government motors".
Any company resembling a free market company doing well without government help will be pressured to succumb to the new way....socialism to blaze a trail to fascism.
Agreed.
And watch for the UAW to go on stike against Ford soon.
Why? Because their interests are in their new ownership of Gov. Motors.
Whereas the UAW has significant ownership stakes, perhaps it is time to look at their antitrust immunity. Using the Ford locals to undermine a competitor is decidedly monopolistic behavior and I am sure falls outside any prior legislative intent protecting unions from Sherman, etc.
Now due to "Change" I have to do it with a Lincoln!
At an average of $16,280/car the gov. can’t be buying many Crown Vics.
Sure they can. Thats the cop car ,taxi cab, vinyl seat, rubber mat ,price.
I a not sure either, but Ford is the only manufacturer that still makes a rear wheel drive car fit for police duty,.
Chrysler has one now too, but its too small and overpowered.
WE are buying more Fords than GM/Chrysler because they are CHEAPER??? WHAT THE HELL!!!
we friggin OWN THEM... they should be CHEAPER than FORD!!!
unions sucking even MORE $$$$$$$ from the taxpayers
They want real warranty coverage!
Chevrolet made the Caprice as a rear drive version for police duty too. Don't know what they will build now though.
I’ve had two... great cars/trucks.
Wouldn’t surprise me for Obama to come out and tell Ford, look we just bought a whole bunch of your cars. That’s kind of a bailout because we didn’t have to buy any...
