James Von Brunn’s writings don’t sound very “right-wing.”
On June 10, the nation tragically witnessed a memorial dedicated to commemorating an atrocity become the site of yet more death. Just before 1 p.m., longtime neo-Nazi James Wenneker Von Brunn entered the Holocaust Museum on the National Mall and opened fire in an attempt to complete the Final Solution his hero had left tentative, an omission Von Brunn dubbed “Hitler’s biggest mistake.” As former Defense Secretary Bill Cohen wandered the museum grounds, Von Brunn killed Stephen T. Johns, a black security officer, then was shot himself. As of this writing, the 88-year-old is in critical condition.
The white-wing fringe greeted the news with predictable joy. Its most popular website, Stormfront.org, saluted “White Racialist Treasure: James Von Brunn” in 2004; a thoughtful reader, seeing Von Brunn had backed up his recent threats with deadly action, wrote yesterday, “Definitely needs a bump today.” Another hoped the shooting would cause Americans to believe taking their children to Holocaust memorials is now “an insurance risk.”
Yet racists are not alone in their glee. Leftists have decided to exploit Von Brunn’s madness to engender fear of rampant conservative terrorism. They overlook one point: the shooter was not a conservative.
A review of his lengthy associations reveals Von Brunn hardly fits the stereotype of a Religious Right, GOP precinct captain. He denounced the Christian faith as a dastardly Jewish conspiracy, a “HOAX” invented by the Apostle Paul to “DESTROY ROMAN CULTURE” from within by undermining its pagan virility. (All screaming capitalization and grammatical errors in this piece appear in the original.) Like others on the racist fringe, the shooter proclaimed clearly: “SOCIALISM, represents the future of the West.”

Van Brunn also decried “the browning of America” and wrote of a Jewish conspiracy “to destroy the White gene-pool.” He posted to various right-wing websites, including Free Republic, where this cached thread (the original was taken down) contains anti-Obama rants. As such, he was also part of the birther movement claiming there is no valid birth certificate for President Obama. The sad part about this is that we have elected officials trying to give this craziness credibility. Congressman Bill Posey of Florida introduced a bill that would require presidential candidates to file copies of birth certificates, and Rep. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia is a co-sponsor. Interesting company they keep.As I posted on Alan Colmes (oddly taken down) and many other sites, Von Brunn was never a Freeper or poster. One and only one of his pieces was cross posted from another site. The "Birther" failed to do any research, believing only what was written, and posted this drivel. (Note the irony).
On a larger point, this is one reason why Birthers are poisonous. It attracts kooks that destroy everything they touch. And the very concept is kooky. If the story had any merit, Hillary would have disqualified Obama in January 2008. The Obama camp and later administration provided enough information to discredit the story, but not enough for those who wish to beleive. To be blunt, Birthers are useful idiots for the left.

Exactly and if people knew history they would understand. I read a quote by Hitler where he said in 1927 -
“We are socialists. We are enemies of today’s capitalistic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are determined to destroy this system under all conditions.”
Well afterall the KKK was formed as the terrorist wing of the Democratic party unfortunately most lefties don’t bother to learn history and just take what someone told them as fact. The national archives contains letters from the south after the civil war asking for help to stop the KKK from lynching both blacks and republican’s!

Oh my... looks like he was there. I’m wondering now if he was von Brunn’s actual target. Cohen was one of Hmimmsa’s targets [even after Cohen was out of office I believe]; not to mention Saddam had the desire to get revenge on the guy, too.

True. Evidence of this is that you don’t see neo-Nazis at, say, the Tea Parties, but you do see Communists and pro-palestinian anti-semites at virtually any large gathering of leftists. The Left is much more comfortable with its fringe than we are with ours.

As for the talk about birther's being useful idiots, I laud out my case. Attempt to refute it if you can. I've dealt with serious conspiracy nuts in the past including a rather unpleasant email with JW von Brunn.
none of that stuff has been release but that still makes me feel dirty.
