Posted on 06/10/2009 6:29:47 PM PDT by Jessica2677

Does anyone know if this is legal? We just got a parking ticket for parking in the grass in our own yard. The ticket says "can not park on grass or unpaved area(even if your own yard). I swear to god this is what the ticket says and its a $50 ticket that doubles to $100 then doubles to $200 Does anyone know anything about this law????

Thats just one example of why I like living in the country and hate the city. To many a-holes with their nose in everybody else’s business. I bet a “good” neighbor called the cops because they didn’t approve of you parking in your own damn yard. Its normally some old fart with way too much time on their hands.

Would it be OK with you if your neighbor parked 50 cars in his yard and started selling them? Running a business off private property is not legal unless licensed, but you knew that

And had those cool multicolored pennants hanging from the lights that he leaves on all night? No problem

And the blow up gorilla on his roof? Actually I kinda like that idea myself.

30 miles North? You must live right on the California-Texas border, padner!

Heh, heh. I live in California. TexasEagle is just a nick.

It would be fine by me, if its his property he can do what he wants. That being said my nearest neighbor is 5 miles away ;)

Then the answer is real simple, you and your caring neighbors get yor $$ together and buy out the guy you dislike . That way you do not have to complain about how he parks his car.

Simple people think up simple answers. Problem is, simple people with simple answers shouldn't be doing any thinking at all.

If I invest 200 or 300 thousand dollars on a home, I sure wouldn't allow anyone to come around and take away from my home's value. Your attitude is one I would expect from someone who lives in the countryside or in the woods or in a trailer park or doesn't own his own home. Sure, my home is not like that of the rich and famous, but to me, it's my castle, and anything that devalues or trashes its surroundings should be unlawful.

Now you let the cat out of the bag, I've got instant google street view, now everyone will want it. When my nephew was in Mexico last year I looked up where he was staying , emailed him, and told him I could see the bull ring and for him to wave at twelve the next day and I would see if I could see him.

Watch that tin hat I may be watching!!!! LOL

There’s an enormous amount of hypocrisy regarding property rights. People want unlimited rights for themselves and none for anyone else.

One car and 50 cars is a big difference. It’s my own private car on my own private property...we have no gorilla or signs.
See this is where the extremism comes into play...all the what if’s.
We could go on and on with the what if’s.......but for what? Its not reality.

If you invest that much money in a house squeeeeeeezed into an area so small what your neighbor does in his yard bugs you....you are definitely stupid.

I have a question that relates to my recent experiences...Have you pissed off anyone at city hall or neighbors familiar with code?

You said”Simple people think up simple answers. Problem is, simple people with simple answers shouldn't be doing any thinking at all.” and then you said” Your attitude is one I would expect from someone who lives in the countryside or in the woods or in a trailer park or doesn't own his own home.”...............................................................................................You see, I do live in the country and at the same time in the city limits of Houston. I bought the property on both sides of me so I don't have to put up with the likes of someone like you, pretty simple wasn't it, I thought so. ....................Sometimes the easiest solutions are the simplest.

I'd prefer him to you any day of the week. In fact one of my neighbors repairs tractors and four wheelers. His yard is full of them. He minds his own business and I mind mine. I can't tell you how happy I am that I was blessed with him and not you.

Well as you said before, it was a learning lesson on the mentality of people. Even many supposedly conservative people here on FR, have drunk the kool-aid and have no problem calling in the power of the state to enforce their petty will on others.

You are the one acting stupid, leave the neighbor along and stop being a busy body. The joke about the Latinos was because the guy down the street with three broke down cars in his drive is a Mexican. But I would never think of calling a cop on him. It’s his Sh** and he can live in it. If it really PO’s me I’ll buy him out, maybe you should do the same.

You're still not doing any kind of real thinking.

It's not about being a busy body. It's not about being Mexican or Latino or whatever. It's about property value.

The neighbor can do anything he wants in his property and if he (and she) wanted to live like they do, they could've chosen a different neighborhood where they could destroy their property value along with their neighbors.

The neighborhood is not rich, but what we have is a nice neighborhood with nice houses. Our properties used to either retain or gain value over the years (except for the current recession). However, ever since "my next door neighbor" moved in, my property value and that of the other people in the neighborhood has gone down.

I don't care what the neighbor does, but, when that neighbor is so uncaring that he would destroy his property value and that of the others in the neighborhood, then it's not a matter of just minding your own business.

OK, usually that’s how neighborhood politics gets played. If there is an ordnance against lawn parking the best you can do is tell the judge you didn’t know.
