Conservative foreign and national-security policies do not need remaking, rebranding or remessaging. They need not be escorted by prefixes or adjectives, nor do they need "moderating."
Conservative foreign policy is unabashedly pro-American, unashamed of American exceptionalism, unwilling to bend its knee to international organizations, and unapologetic about the need for the fullest range of dominant military capabilities. Its diplomacy is neither unilateralist nor multilateralist, but chooses its strategies, tactics, means and methods based on a hard-headed assessment of U.S. national interests, not on theologies about process. Most especially, conservatives understand that allies are different from adversaries, and that each should be treated accordingly.

Anyways, this definitely speaks to me. This is why I am a conservative, and I hope, as a functional minority in American politics today, we can start moving back toward this direction in our philosophy.
Awesome piece.
Concur with Mr. Bolton’s excellent perspective.
I’m a Bolton fan.
And this piece is dead on the money.
Speaks to me too.
How come we can’t get guys/gals like Bolton to run for office? Can you imagine a House and Senate full of Boltons and Sarahs doing only what the federal government is supposed to do, “Provide for the National Defense”. Imagine a house and senate full of Boltons and Sarahs cutting this program and that, getting rid of this bureaucracy and that, repealing this law and that. Imagine. . .

Nailed It!
Very concentrated in thoughts, brilliant article, practically un-excerptable. A must-read defense of conservative foreign and national-security policies .
This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for the perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author all 100% to feel the need to share an article.)
I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of the good stuff that is worthy of attention.
You are welcome to browse the list of truly exceptional articles I pinged to lately. Updated on June 3, 2009. on my page.
You are welcome in or out, just freepmail me (and note which PING list you are talking about).
Besides this one, I keep 2 separate PING lists for my favorite authors Victor Davis Hanson and Orson Scott Card.
Bill Gertz interview on Hannity and ColmesGertz: Well he casts himself as a compassionate conservative and I argue that he's neither. That his administration is neither. He's done tremendous damage to the conservative movement... |
Glenn Beck has been making a point of the fact that both parties are progressive. Neither are conservative. Someone else made the point that the reason the bureaucracy of government is so [progressive] is that the [progressives] believe in big government, thus tend to make a career of it, while conservatives tend to want to serve, then return to private life.
