Deeds wins Democratic nomination for governor
RICHMOND
Defying early predictions that he might finish last in a three candidate field, Creigh Deeds won the Democratic nomination for governor in Tuesdays primary election.
Deeds, a state senator from rural Bath County, raised less money than his two rivals, yet managed to best them both as a dark horse candidate with a lean, focused campaign that used its resources effectively.
His win sets up a rematch of the 2005 attorney generals race, which he narrowly lost to Republican Bob McDonnell a recount showed the men separated by 360 voters out of more than 1.9 million cast.
McDonnell, who outspent Deeds 2 to 1 in the 2005 campaign, is the GOP nominee for governor this year.
Despite the close finish four years ago, McDonnell campaign strategists say they like their chances against Deeds.
With McAuliffe and Moran out of the race, McDonnell becomes the urban candidate with ties to vote-rich Fairfax County, where he was raised, and Virginia Beach, which he represented in the state legislature.
The most conservative of the three Democrats, Deeds now pivots to general election mode with the challenge to extend his partys hold on the governors mansion for a third consecutive term.

Terry McAweful is a loser. Of course he lost.
ROFLMAO!
OK Terry, now go away for good.
Hey Terry, go pedal your wind farms somewhere else.
I went to the precinct and cast a vote for McAwful, only because I wanted him and all his baggage to face McDonnell. Deeds will be a much more formidable opponent. I know the polls have shown McDonnell outpacing all the dems, but they’ll coalesce behind Deeds. He’s going to be very tough to beat.
McAwful is from VA? With that pitiful accent of his, I figured him from Ohiyer or Mishygun.
Don’t underestimate McDonnell, he’s a great candidate, plus Deeds had to tact to the left and go against instant background checks at gun shows, a big negative in the Old Dominion.
I saw a plea go out this morning for conservatives to vote for McAwful to ensure an R victory down the road. Perhaps the dems took note and zigged to counter the effort...?
I think it would be a good strategy to get more conservative dems to challenge liberal ones in House races, so that possibly the conservative dems can take party leadership from the liberals.
For true conservatism, we shouldnt just focus on fixing the Republican Party, but running interference in the Dem one, just like they have been doing to us for years, giving us McCain and Chafee and the rest.

Terry was in the race for the money. Large portions of his exorbitant expenditures will be kicked back.
The Democrat party is a criminal enterprise
Hey, I’m from “Michygun” and we don’t want him. We have enough of our own nuts to deal with.
McAwful would have been much easier to beat in November.
McAweful losing anything is a great event!
It’s good to see VA hasn’t totally lost its mind, not even the dems. I must say though, it would have been much more fun to watch him lose the general election.
From what I could tell based on frequency of TV and radio ads it seemed like McAwful spent three times as much as Deeds and Moran (who had almost no ads) combined.
Those ads might have hurt McAweful more than they helped. In none of them I saw did he even try to at least fake a Southern accent. It’s as if someone from another country showed up and decided to run for governor.
Did the idiot have any ties at all to our state, aside from a mailing address or one of many homes?
Too bad. The other Dems would have lost by 10%. With Deeds it will be real close.
