High court won't block Chrysler sale

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court has cleared the way for Chrysler's sale to Fiat, turning down a last-ditch bid by opponents of the deal.

The court said late Tuesday it had rejected a plea to block the sale of most of Chrysler's assets to the Italian automaker. Chrysler, Fiat and the Obama administration had warned that the high court's intervention could have scuttled the sale.

A federal appeals court in New York had earlier approved the sale, but gave opponents until Monday afternoon to try to get the Supreme Court to intervene.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg ordered a temporary delay just before a 4 p.m. deadline on Monday.

The dealeership thing is a side issue, and would not have blocked the sale.

To agree to hear the case? I think they only need 4 to do that.

But I reserve the right to be wrong.

After 2010 ACORN will receive billions of more dollars to ensure that obams and the Democrats get the most votes in 2012.””

Want another headache?
Harry Reid is pushing a bill in Congress that would abolish the 22nd Amendment...eliminate the maximum number of terms a President can serve.

Nobama seems to want to be there for life—just like Hugo Chavez.

The entire House of Representatives needs to be changed in 2010, IMO.

No more than what has been going on for four months now. This GM deal has been factored in for quite a while. No one was counting on the Supremes to step in.

Someone stated earlier that because it was a “stay” they needed 5 not 4.

I also reserve the right to be wrong.

Per Breitbart:
To obtain a delay, or stay, someone must show that at least four of the nine justices find that the issue raised is serious enough to warrant hearing a full appeal and that a majority of the court will conclude the lower court decision was wrong.

"The applicants have not carried that burden," the court said.

Yep. I'd bet Kennedy and the liberal wing slammed the door on Alito, Thomas, Roberts and Scalia.

I still wish some lawyer-type would tell me ANY legal (not political) argument the O-Team could have put forward before the court. So far, I haven't heard a breath of a legal case on their side.

They are going to have to relearn, the hard way, all the lessons our Founding Fathers and many generations of leaders learned.

I would prefer they learn the lesson George III did.

I would prefer they learn the lesson Louis XVI did.

If that happens, then America is no more and we either fight or get out or choose to live under a Hugo Chavez. 3 choices and only 3.

Can you provide the Senate bill number? Any amendment to the Constitution must be ratified by 3/4 of the states.

see my post above.

They only need 4 votes to accept the case...BUT, they also have to show that they’ll carry the day (5 Justices on the final ruling).

Read the fine print it does not mean the SC ruled on the merits. In fact, the order stressed that “a denial of a stay is not a decision on the merits of the underlying legal issues.””

That is just fancy language which is saying” We don’t have the cojones to stop this madness”......

It is time that more people find out just who exactly are the Bondholders in companies all around the country. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett could not by themselves own all the bonds that are out there. The pensions of firefighters, policemen, teachers, et al are the real bondholders.
For all you teachers who just couldn’t wait to vote for a black man to vote for, enjoy the 3% or so of your pension money that is left...your retirement just took a major turn in the road.

“How far does it have to fall before trading is forced to stop?”

It is dependent on the time and the percentage drop.

We're gonna start losing more "coal mine canaries". It will get to the point where we'll need to back them up.

Gonna be a hot summer, even if the temps are below average.

Perhaps a new name for the USA: Bolivarian Republic de Venezuela del Norte. A congratulations note from one Maximum Leader to another seems in order.
