Tech layoffs will continue through year-end, survey says.
The real impact of the nearly $800 billion stimulus package on shrinking IT employment remains in the future, despite President Obama's plan, announced today, to expedite hiring of some 600,000 people over the next 100 days. Many of the jobs in this summer boost will be aimed at the construction and education fields and at young people.
Meanwhile, the forecast for the next six months is for more tech sector layoffs, according to a new survey.
Of the 1,900 technology recruiters and hiring managers queried about the tech labor market by jobs board Dice.com, 43% believe that layoffs are either "likely" or "very likely" over the next six months. The semi-annual survey also found that companies are giving themselves more time to vet candidates, extending the hiring process.

Foote said IT companies will lead the U.S. out of a recession because of the role IT plays in new product creation, delivering services and other areas.
The White House jobs announcement today will create, among other things, 125,000 summer youth jobs, 135,000 teaching and support staff jobs, and will fund construction at Veterans Administration medical centers, new waste water and treatment systems, and clean-up of Superfund Sites.

HA...like we would believe what Obomba says anyhoo....sheesh....yeah, and I have a great piece of lakefront property for sale in Arizona....
I’ll betcha they are ready to fill all those shovel ready projects building bridges and highways.
New Federal Hiring coming your way!
So filling out a welfare forms to get benefits is now considered a job.
Obama hates “Tech People”
It comes out to $1.3 million per job created. We’re not getting much bang for the buck here. I can’t say I’d turn down a $1.3 million job, though.
IT's always going to show some shrinkage.
>> [Bambi’s] plan, announced today, to expedite hiring of some 600,000 people over the next 100 days.
ROFLMAO!
Doing WHAT??!? Taking the census? Man, I’m in the wrong racket.
Unfortunately, I can’t expect to get hired on with the gubmint... I’m the wrong color, AND the wrong gender. NO SOUP FOR ME!!!
Many of the jobs in this summer boost will be aimed at the construction and education fields and at young people Obama voters.
Do the math:
1st 100 days = an alleged 150,000 jobs created and nearly 2,000,000+ lost.
2nd 100 days = an alleged 600,000 jobs to be created...
Barry, your math is not and has not been adding up!
No doubt, reality in the White House is not the same reality that ‘we’ the average everyday people see, kkthx.....moron.

“It comes out to $1.3 million per job created.”
.....it would be more effective to start throwing cash out of helicopters.
Tech is filled with Libs and thousands of them were on the message boards pulling out all the stops to get Hussein elected. Let em eat cake.

Didn’t Bambi promise us that only a small fraction of the jobs he “created” would be gubmint jobs?
When the DOD gets whacked, California is the first to get hit. But hey, a new sidewalk around Palmdale should look nice.
Agreed. For being technically-bright, most of them were easily fooled with the Jon-Stewart-coolness of voting for the hip, suave jive-talkin' black dude over some pasty, out-of-touch honky with jowly cheeks who can't even work a keyboard (despite injuries incurred while proudly serving his country).
Fortunately though, the Tech Sector also has a lot of closet conservatives that would rather be silent and let the fools figure it out on their own. If they can.
Very true. It is almost like Hollywood. People in tech who are conservative have to be very quiet. The same thing is true in any union job, which I have never held. The unions purposely try to find anyone who is not a Dem and drive them out.
I did a quick search of IT on Careerbuilder.com and over 60,000 IT jobs popped up. I see well over a 200 new faces in new slots at my shop.
Plus there is a constant game of musical chair people voluntarily (and some nudged) for better jobs elsewhere with people from other positions coming to fill the vacant position. Some positions stay vacant a long time because nobody qualified applies for them. I constantly have recruiters phone and email pleading for me to jump to fill a position they are having a hard time filling.
I’m not saying we have utopia. It actually takes effort to find a job. ... and brains. If one can’t find a job in IT how are they going to find the user requirements once they have the job?
The false language is that nobody will GIVE somebody a job. The only ones that are GIVEN are those to nephews and son-in-laws. Everybody else has to WORK to get the job.
